Feel Kinda Like an Apple Fan Boi

The time had come to replace my Pixel 2XL so I went shopping. One of the nice things about Android vs. Apple is there are a lot of choices with Android, not just among manufacturers but also among features and hardware. I was completely satisfied with my Pixel 2XL but I thought here was my chance to try something different, like a Samsung or a OnePlus.

So I did my research, read a lot of reviews, talked to friends, and ended up with.... the Pixel 5a. I almost bought a Samsung S10 Fan Edition, but in the end the familiarity with the Pixel environment, the stellar camera, and the new, massive battery kept me with a Google phone.

I guess that familiarity with the product is what keeps Apple owners returning to Apple phones, despite successive models not being much different from their predecessors. It also helps that Apple phones are really, really good. And there is that comfort with the OS and Apple environment.

Having had the 5a for almost a week now it isn't much different from my 2XL. Wide angle lens camera, bigger battery, and water proof is basically it. But the Pixel phones are so, so good and my two main criteria are camera and battery, and since both are improvements for me, I'm happy with my choice.

Now, about that Pixel 6 Pro...

Had my 5a for 24 hours - so far I'm very happy with it - the size is much more manageable than I expected coming from a 5. Planned on getting a 6 - but may stick with the 5a - yeah, like this is gonna happen.

The 5a is almost exactly the same size as the 2XL. They are the same length and the 2XL is only about 1/8" wider. Although the 5a is made of a lighter body, the bigger battery gives it some heft and it is only slightly lighter than the 2XL. On my first day of ownership, with the 5a is in my pocket I could tell there was a small difference in weight, but now after several days it seems "normal". All of this gives me the impression I haven't changed phones, something I feel Apple owners know all about.

In your instance you might be noticing more differences between your previous phone and the 5a than I am.

Pixel 5 or 5a, which one weighs more? Is it noticeable?

I'd be curious to hear your impressions of battery life, 5a vs. 5. Right now I'm astounded at the battery life. I've owned a Droid Turbo, which in its day was a battery giant. And my Pixel 2XL was even better than the Turbo. Now the 5a battery is exceeding the 2XL. All is good.

@PowrDroid - I also had a Droid Turbo - nice phone.

I am not a good one to judge the battery life - I'm a very light user. I used to put the 5 on the Pixel stand every night and take it off in the AM - never paid much attention to the battery usage.

I've had every Pixel phone and don't recall the battery being an issue with any of them.

It doesn't take long to get get used to the 5a since it is not a gigantic leap in size or weight. As you say, "new" becomes "normal" rather quickly.
I always overclock my desktops which is nice for about 20 minutes - then "new" speed is "normal" speed.

I agree - "all is good" and I have no intention of giving up my citizenship to Pixel Land any time soon.

OT - was anxious to see if an update was available today - forgot it's a holiday here in the USA - will keep checking.
