File Manager App behavior discrepancies

I have a question, see if anyone has any ideas.

I have used (paid version) Astro File mgr for years, thru 3 different tablets and 2 phones and have never had a problem. But recently, only on my Note 10.1 2014, it has started having a very big/annoying lag from when I open, to when I get the screen to choose a folder, and more lag to select a folder.

I've run toolkit to clear stuff, I've deleted files, yet the lag continues. And FYI I use Nova launcher.

Now here is what baffles me. I've installed ES File Mgr, and it sees the folder, files, and structures that Astro sees, but opens everything right up instantly. The stock app My Files does the same.

So why is Astro having this issue?

Any feedback/thoughts/ideas?

Offhand, I am not sure. Have you tried clearing the cache for Astro in Settings>application Manager? If that doesn't work, I would email the developer, tell them make, model, and Android version of the device, tell them the issue, and ask if they have any ideas. It may be a bug they don't know about.
