Hey, so I just got my HTC One. Because I don't have internet, yet, I downloaded files, games(apk. files), when I add them to the "Download" folder I can't access them by phone and or install the games at all. I am putting the files in a wrong place, or am I doing something wrong. This is my first android phone so I am really lost. I tried looking for the files in the default "Downloads" app, but couldn't find then, even thou, when I look at the used up space it says that there are files in downloads.

Please help,
Have a good day.

Welcome to Android Central! The Downloads app doesn't always work that well if you're moving things to that folder instead of downloading them--it might have to do with how it interacts with the Download Manager app. I suggest installing a 3rd party file manager like ES File Explorer or Total Commander.

Yes, you need internet access to download and install from Google Play. Next time you have access, give those apps a try.

If you downloaded .apk files from some website instead of through a well-established site like Google Play or Amazon Appstore, keep in mind that it can be a risky practice, since you can't be sure how safe that .apk file is--it could be carrying malware. This is especially a risk if the .apk you downloaded is for an app that normally costs money.

If you had a file manager app, you could transfer the .apk to essentially any folder, because then you could navigate to that folder using the file manager and then select the .apk to open. But until you have access to the internet, I think you're temporarily out of luck.

Don't you have a Starbucks or something like that nearby? There's got to be some free wifi you can take advantage of--that is, unless you're in the wilderness or stationed in some remote country with minimal connectivity ...
