Finally figured out what was slowing down my S7 Edge badly

I had an S7 Edge from day 1. Sold it to get the Note7. Tried out the iPhone 7 Plus and liked it, but had major network issues with it. Got back to an S7 Edge. Bootlooping and other issues, so replaced it. Now I have a new Coral Blue one and since day 1, it's been slow as molasses and extremely laggy.

I had cleared the cache partition to no avail. T-Mobile tech support suggested I go to Storage and clear the entire App cache. That solved it, but it also explained why this was happening.

First thing I do with a new phone is download about 60GB of music from Google Music. I commute via subway, so need the music offline. This had created a huge 2GB+ cache. For whatever reason that was slowing things down. Since I always downloaded music day 1, it impacted each of the new S7 Edges. Just in case someone else is downloading a lot of music from Google Music, thought I'd share this. The difference is night and day. The S7 Edge is now fast again and usable again. I was about to give up and switch to the LG V20.

I have the Carol blue as well and a bit lagy from the start. I dont have that much music but my cached data under storage showing 2.4gb. I just cleared it but don't really think that's what was making my phone a bit lagy.

Give it a full reboot and about an hour. That's what it took in my case. FWIW, I also completely disabled the Edge. I don't use it much.

I think I was unfortunately too quick to judge. The phones back to being laggy again :-(. I have only 640MB in cache now, but even the game Crossy Road is choppy.

I only see a bit of lag when trying to open like email or text notifications from lockscreen. Everything else is fast and good.

Yeah, it sounded unlikely that storing music would slow the phone down or that clearing the app cache would fix it. But there's definitely something specific to your phone that's causing the problem, possibly a rogue app. Have you tried monitoring CPU usage (via Developer Options) to see what's running the most?
