On my Captivate I have to first make the wifi visible then connect to it and setup the connection. After that I can hide it again and it always connets.

I know you are asking about the SGS 3, but figured give some info since I have the SGS 1 :)

Update: I got my SGS3 yesterday and have come into the same problem. It will not connect to my home Wifi if the SSID is not broadcasting. This is odd since my Captivate has no problem connecting after initially setting up the connection.

I have tried forgetting the network on the SGS3, turning on SSID broadcast on my router, finding it on the SGS3 and connecting. It stays connected and all is good but if I turn off SSID broadcast the SGS3 disconnects and will not reconnect to my wifi.

I am a bit confused since it worked fine on my Captivate SGS1.

This is all working as designed. Have router broadcast SSID so you can see it. Connect from phone. Turn SSID broadcast off on router. Connect from phone.

If after turning off SSID broadcast, you tell your device to 'forget' the connection, well then ...

If you know your network name (SSID), just type it in and go.

That's the problem. Like the OP, when turning off ssid broadcast, the phone drops the connection and will not connect again until I turn ssid back on

I upgraded from a Captivate and my new GS3 has no problem with my non-broadcasting SSID. Are you using MAC filtering?

Frank

No I am not MAC Filtering. I will give it another go b/c I just find it odd that it doesnt work.

UPDATE: I just deleted the network and just manually entered everything, with SSID broadcast off on router, and my SGS3 connected. I am assuming if you connect when SSID is broadcasting then the phone expects it to always be broadcasting, which is the reason the phone was disconnecting after SSID broadcast was turned off. All working now :) thanx to everyone that chimed in. Symbianblack I hope you got yours working as well.
