Fingerprint Reader an Issue?

I have been reading quite a few comments recently suggesting that the optical fingerprint reader in the Pixel 8 series is #@%*! leaves a lot to be desired and how some feel that the ultrasonic reader in the Pixel 9 series handily nails it. While I think it is touching that Pixel 9 users are feeling that the ultrasonic reader is a marked improvement over the optical reader, I haven't personally had any kind of an issue with the fingerprint reader on my P8P since I threw the screen protector into the trash. It just works perfectly, every time and it is a hands down improvement over my P6P.

The digital critiques regarding the Pixel 8 series fingerprint readers got me to wondering; are there a lot - or even a handful - of us Pixel 8 series users put out with the fingerprint reader on our devices and we are just biding our time until we get our hands on our next device to tell people what we really think? Are those using screen protectors and those not using them having the same or different experiences?

What say you? Thumbs up or thumbs down? Are you hard pressed to find a reason to keep your 8 because it's reader makes you want to give Google the finger? Are you itching to move over to ultrasonic? Does using a screen protector point to a better or less satisfying experience?

For me, I've never had an issue with the FPS on my 8 Pro with a screen protector on ... Never had an issue with the 7 Pro either. I always use smart lock/extend unlock with my smartwatch so I'm sure that helps my cause, but the times I am prompted to unlock with my fingerprint or to use my fingerprint to verify a password or access Wallet/ a bank app ,I never have an issue.

It's not great, but is well enough. Works maybe 90% of the time for me. But it does not do well when the finger gets a little dirty. I hear ultrasonic FPS is better for that, but I have no experience with it.

I still miss the rear FPS in earlier Pixels. More convenient ergonomically when picking up the phone and it seemed that the slight depression helped place the finger in the optimal position for scanning.

I certainly had unlock problems on my 6Pro, especially when my fingers got dried out or chapped from doing outside work. The 8Pro is a whole different story. The phone unlocks quickly and with a very high accuracy rate. I do not use a screen protector and I also use face unlock. I think the face unlock/FPS combo working together contributes to the very high unlock accuracy rate.
