I have a Galaxy S5 purchased in November 2014, on T-Mobile. I've upgraded it consistently so it's now on 5.x (probably 5.1.1). It's worked flawlessly for me, until this morning. I used the fingerprint reader to unlock, and up through last night it was working fine. When I woke up this morning I had a message which said something to the effect that my fingerprint reader had malfunctioned, and that I needed to enter the backup password. So I went and dug that out, but it didn't work. So I tried doing some searches here and elsewhere, and tried everything I found:
1. My Google password does not work
2. I tried Android Device Manager, but it tells me that since the phone is already locked the password I set there will be ignored
3. I tried the ADM password I set anyways, and it doesn't work
4. I've tried every other password I can think of that I *might* have used, instead of the one that I have saved
At this point it seems like a hard reset is my only option, but I was hoping that someone here could provide another alternative. About 98% of my data is backed up, but there are some recent text messages that I'd like to save if at all possible. I've read the guide to recovering lost files, and I'm happy to give DiskDigger a try if I have to. But I'd like to avoid that if I can. The reading I've done on ADB seems to indicate that because my device is well past 4.2.2 that there is no way to get data off of it unless it's unlocked first. Am I correct on that?
My first choice would be to somehow get the fingerprint reader to come back to life, but I haven't found anything on that.
Any help y'all can provide will be greatly appreciated.
