Finicky thumb print reader

Has anyone else's thumb print reader become more finicky since the 3.0 update? It'll refuse to accept it, forcing me to use my PIN. If I do the check registered prints thing in settings, it'll start to accept it again for a short time.

I've already tried deleting and reregistering my prints.

Mine has always been like this. Improves for a bit after re-registering but then gets worse again. What I've now done is register prints so that you record more of a 'prod' or 'pointing and pressing at the screen' gesture with the edge of the finger or thumb, rather than a flat print. That works a lot better. However it's also more inelegant. I miss the Note 9's magic fingerprint reader, but I can tolerate the prodding solution - at least it works.
(I also have touch sensitivity on).

Any updates on your situation, OP? Are you using a screen protector on your phone, and if so, how is it faring? Any damage to it?

It seems better since I reregistered my thumb, always in the same orientation. Before, I was holding it in different orientations.

I have registered my thumbs twice in different orientations and I found it reads no matter how I hold the phone

I think it's the worst FPS I've ever used. I occassionally fail enough times I'm required to enter my pin. Really should try registering my finger prints again but I've been lazy about it.

I missed the front facing FPS on my S7 home button, now I miss the rear FPS of the Note 8/9. Lol

I just said that to my wife, two nights ago, as I flipped out at the kitchen counter when the Note 20 wouldn't unlock for me. She didn't even remember the Note 8/9's having rear mounted FPS. I said "Yep, just pick it up with my right hand, place my right index finger on the back fps and voila', you're in, first time, every time - both Note 8 and Note 9!!! Now we have to go "Higher Tech"...

I might be the only person who hated the fps on the note 9. I never had an issue getting it to work, but it was hard for my short fingers to get to the back . The front fps on the 20 ultra works great for me and I don't have to stretch my fingers.lol

Just had to touch the damn thing thrice in a row to get to see my thumb. The skin is a bit dry, but I just don't see how it can cause tlsich a discrepancy.
