Firmware causing issues

I got my phone way back around June 2nd, and I guess it came with the latest firmware. I tried using Z4Root 1.3.0, and I did temp. root, and processed through stuff, and exited the app, doing nothing. Later found, its likely my phone has the latest firmware.

Is there a rather simple way to downgrade without loosing data?

I would rather a temporary root if possible...The only reason I want to have the ability to root is for things like screenshots, and teather. I have PDAnet which is the USB teather, but I would like to have hotspot teather, so I can have the ability to use my ipod touch with it, or especially my tablet (which doesnt have a USB as its a beta stage public test unit). If it comes down to i have to downgrade by doing a huge mess of work, loosing data, etc, I would rather keep things as is, maybe hope they find a bypass to the firmware...as I dont wish to perm. root, as i rather a one-click, and temp root, for the few times I needed to have wireless hotspot teather. Its easy to jailbreak an ipod, rather very hard to make it lock up..and from what i read at least, rooting android phones is still risky if you dont do everything perfectly. Just not up to risking things going bad really.
