After a full day now with the V20 here are some observations compared to my Huawei Mate 9:
- first kind of a disappointment regarding signal strength. Granted the signal is bad in my house (Globe Telecom, Philippines) however the Mate 9 always manages to obtain signal inside the house, usually 1 or 2 bars. The V20 often shows "no service".
- The display on the V20 is much better, as expected. Slight disappointment as I find no way to adjust the color balance on the V20 though.
- The V20 is certainly easier to hold and operate compared to the Mate 9. Much lighter and overall a little bit smaller.
- The V20 seems more responsive to touches. The Mate 9 is known to have a very aggressive palm rejection and sometimes that causes having to tap an icon a couple of times.
- I'm a little surprised at the speed difference between the two. The Mate 9 is a speed demon. I really have no complaints though with the speed of the V20.
- Haven't really had time with the cameras yet, just a little testing. Noticed that (in manual mode where I usually shoot) the V20 has no metering adjustment. The Mate 9 has eval, center weighted and spot meterings available. With the few test shots I'm liking the camera of the V20 a little more than the Mate 9, though I do miss the ability to adjust the metering modes. Focus peaking on the V20 is great. Very useful for me.
- Obviously haven't had enough time to really check the battery life. Setting everything up and playing some I'm getting a little more than 1 hour of SOT for each 10% of battery use. That's certainly good. Side note, because I've not seen it mentioned anywhere before, mine came with two batteries.
Anyway the kind of major disappointment is the crappy signal quality of the V20.
I'll probably post up more in a few days after I've had time to ride the V20 longer.
