First few days with a LG G4

My Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has started to play up with constant screen redraws, huge lag and overall clunky performance. I had the Note 2 and 3 previously so have been somewhat a loyal Samsung man.

I am not entirely convinced by the current crop of flagship smartphones for a variety of reasons but mainly due to the lack of removable battery and microSD card support. I eventually settled on the LG G4 and thankfully I managed to source a red leather LG G4 for £229, which is total bargain in my eyes.

My super initial impressions after a four days of use are overwhelmingly positive (in no particular order):
1. This is an extremely fast phone and significantly quicker than my old Note 4. I'm experiencing zero lag but then that might just be because it is a fresh phone. Apps install and update quicker as well which is a bonus
2. I thought the plastic would be an issue but it really has not. I think the red leather back has a lot to do with this
3. The form factor is excellent. It is a relatively compact phone and does not weigh much
4. Even the allegedly terrible LG UI is not bothering me too much. Indeed not at all! I guess I had not realised quite how heavy going TouchWiz was until I used another device for some time.
5. Love the camera! No much more to be said over and above all comments made thus far
6. I have obviously been using AMOLEDs exclusively for the past few years and I am enjoying the more 'natural' tones of the LG G4

All in all a great phone which I now understand why has been so strongly reviewed.

Much better than the Note 4 thus far, which is a pleasant surprise

Jazzsalt I couldn't agree more with you....same here. Super trooper happy with my brown leather G4 H815. It is by far my best choice made among all other flagships of the year!!!

I also love the LG UI. Coming from a Moto X, which was pretty much stock android, I really like the touches that LG has added. I don't understand why some reviewers say the UI is a negative.

The dual window thing is great for true multi tasking. You simply can't do that on stock Android at present

I've started seeing a number of former Note Series users migrating to the G4. My wife is on a Note 3 and wants to upgrade, but pretty disappointed by the loss of the sd card, removable battery, and IR blaster on the Note 5. On the other side, she LOVES the S-pen. I've thought about having her look at the G4 or even the V10. For those that came from a Note, how's the transition been after giving up the S-pen?

As I mentioned originally I have had the Note 2, 3 and 4.

To be honest I don't miss the s pen at all but then I wasn't a heavy use of it or its associated features.

How many hoursof SOT are you getting

It depends...I can get 4-5 hrs with heavy use from morning until night and then I have to charge it again.
Or I can get around 2,5 - 3 hrs SOT within 2 days of light use

How do you get upto 5 hrs SOT? What does that involve?

Fantastic phone...best I've ever owned, now if they just made a 5" version.

No gaming at all that is for sure. Calls, messages, viber, instagram, facebook, flipboard, camera photos, some gmail and internet use

Battery usage is higher than I was expecting. Due to Lollipop? And I'm a very light user.

It shouldn't be eating up much battery unless you have some random app chewing up your battery life or something else. Post your battery usage screenshots so we can help you understand what is eating up your battery.
