Hello everyone! First Thread of many im sure! i got the EVO the first day it was released in my area (no 4G in buffalo right now though :( ) and since then ive been pretty android obsessed. The second day of owning it (when it was nearly unattainable) i was going to take a leak and it fell right out of my pocket into the toilet and was ruined... pretty cool huh?!

i had to wait a week and half of pure torture to get my new one and since then all ive been doing is literally trying to make it as tricked out as possible without rooting it... but thats changed and now all ive been wanting to do is root it. i dont know much about it though and i understand theres plenty of information on this site to find those things.

Besides Wifi Tethering for free and getting rid of the obnoxious stock installs.. what else makes rooting worth it.. and it seems alot of you have rooted your phones.. arent you worried about voiding your warranty?

hope to learn alot on this forum so thanks for any input!

I just rooted and installed a custom rom for the first time today. I have to say I'll never look back. There are so many options out there and advantages it's insane. There are ROMS that greatly increase battery life, drastically increase performance on an already great performing phone, remove the fps cap, remove HTC Sense, remove MOST of Sense but still has some Sense to it like the ROM I'm currently using. You can take snapshots of whats on your screen at the moment. I mean the list goes on and on and on. It can be a bit overwhelming. I've been an Android user since last year with the Hero but never rooted it or anything. It was the first time I ever rooted and it was a bit overwhelming, but looking back it's not as hard as it seems. While I'm no expert at it if I had to do it again it would go MUCH smoother. I paid full price for my phone. The main reason it took so long for me to decide to root wasn't really about the warranty, because I can easily just go back to stock and unroot, I was more worried about bricking a $500 phone. But as long as you read read read read read and get a familiar with what you're doing it shouldn't be that difficult. I say go for it. It'll really transform your experience with your phone. Just make sure you do the research and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!!

Battery isnt something im worried about! i actually just orderd the Seido 3500 battery for it.. i have a feeling with such a drastic change in power of battery i will no longer have problems with battery life even with heavy usage.

I bought the phone at full retail.. dropped it into the toilet and had to shell out another 100.. if i botch this id be screwed and have to buy another.. UGH

I was under the impression the human eye cant see anything faster then 60fps correct? the fps cap for the evo is 30? is the change very noticeable?

once you rooted as well, does the root have easy navigation through its menus or do you have to go from there?

Yes you can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. I don't know why people say you can't. I certainly can. It's definitely smoother and faster. There is ZERO lag with the ROM I'm using.

What rom are you using? I'm on the AC rom...that I need to update to the latest version.

sorry i guess that was worded poorly. Once you have the root installed is the phone easy to navigate through the menus (settings, apps, etc) or is it entirely different from what i am used too?

OOO. that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure lol. Ya it's still the same. Especially if you use a ROM that's based of htc Sense like I am. You'll feel right at home lol. I look at it like this... The Evo is like a Vette with a speed governor. Rooting takes the governor off and installing a custom ROM is like throwing a good hit of nitrous, putting a h/c package or boosting it. CAN be risky, but if you do it right it's completely worth it and you'll never go back

if you care about 4G and hdmi out, be careful when you root, cause MOST ROMS dont have these things working as of now..

THanks for the heads up. well for now im just gonna say im not android savy enough (with coding and such.. i think i know an awful lot about phones though) so im just gonna stick with froyo and no root and pray they let the evo get gingerbread haha

I also want to root, but I am a bit confused by all the ROMs. If I only want to be able to change the theme, I know I have to root, but how do you know which Rom to use? Do you have to install a different Rom? I think Froyo is great, I just wanna customize more.
