The situation that I had was as follows. I have several shared calendars on my google account and not all of them would show up on my phone. My son just bought a Captivate and he had the same problem. He could see his personal calendar but not mine despite the fact he could see both online.
The reason he wanted the phone was so that we could easily know what the other was doing so that we could schedule new obligations without conflicting times.
I played with the calendar settings, unsubscribing, re-adding and none of these actions worked. After that I went to my phone and unchecked the sync then put it back that didn't work.
Here is the solution that worked for me and my son. This was given to me from Level 3 Samsung support and now we are happy campers.
First I was told to check the baseband version on my phone. I went to
settings-> About phone -> Baseband version.
I was told that I should see I897UCJH7 (as of 10-10-2010) because that was the latest upgrade for my phone that had google mobile service fixes.
Well my phone didn't have that. It came with an older version which was expected.
At this point I was told to backup all my data before taking more action.
Make sure all contacts are backed up in gmail, write down e-mail pop3 & IMAP connection information, backup to computer or external SD card any pictures, video, music or any other files that I had added to the phone.
Once my backup was complete here are the steps that fixed my phone.
1. Install the new update.
Go to Settings -> software update -> check for update and let the phone go through the automatic download, install and reboot.
Note: If your phone can't connect to the AT&T server (but you can talk to the internet) then you'll have to contact AT&T to have them reset something on their end. You can only check for an update once every 24 hours. To get around this you can factory reset your phone to retry the action after AT&T makes the necessary changes.
2. After the software update has completed you will need to perform a factory reset on the phone. The phone tech insisted that I include this step so just do it.
Type on your dial pad: *2767*3855#
and this will cause the factory reset.
3. Check the baseband version on the phone and it should match (as of 10-10-2010) I897UCJH7.
4. Customize your phone, add your gmail account, e-mail pop3 and IMAP accounts etc. Turn on calendar sync for your gmail account.
After taking these steps on my phone and my son's phone our calendar now shows and syncs with all shared calendars that we see on our online google calendar. It wasn't as time consuming as I thought it might be adding back in my personalized information. I'm glad that we followed the directions.
Now our calendars work as expected from phone to google and vice versa. I can see all shared calendars on my phone and so can my son. Currently I track 3 additional calendars on my phone from google.
Hopefully this will help eliminate the frustration that some of you are having over this issue.
