Flaky LTE?

In case anyone remembers me back over a year ago I have come back :D. I'm sure I have so many people jumping in joy ;).

I replaced a troublesome AT&T S5 with a G3 which for the most part has been working out amazingly. I am running Resurrection Remix 5.1.1 and dang does that thing fly (with a few Faux Kernel tweaks of course). The old S5 holds no candle - ASOP does wonders when compared to bloated Touchwiz.

My problem seems to be that this phone doesn't want to connect and stay connected to LTE even when I am 20 feet from a tower that I know is broadcasting an LTE signal. It just idles on HSPA+ in places my S5 and Nexus 5 could lock and hold a LTE signal. It's odd. What makes it odder is a few days ago it wouldn't disconnect from LTE and drop to H+ even when it was needed to maintain a connection. The only thing that fixed it was changing the APN from ATT GoPhone to ATT LTE (what was odd is every setting in the APN was the same). Since then it's been flaky LTE all the way. I have tried reflashing the modem, messing with APN settings, etc but nothing seems to be fixing it.

Something I have noticed - every Android handset I have played with or know people to have seems to have a much harder time locking/keeping LTE when compared to iPhones I have seen. Not sure what this is. I have been comparing my dad's iPhone 6 to my G3 the past few weeks. He seems to never disconnect until it is needed to keep a signal (HSPA+ or '4G' has a much greater range and penetrates buildings better). I seem to have more difficulty locking on and keeping it no matter what Android handset I use. This shouldn't be a problem but everywhere I have been AT&T's HSPA+ network blows chucks.

Anyone have any ideas on how to at least make LTE a more reliable experience? It's not a huge deal but it is frustrating when my Google Voice call drops, cuts out or is garbled because I am connected to 5 bars of H+ and not 4 of LTE.

Some carriers require you to register your phone with them to get LTE.

I would call your carrier. Say you reset your phone and now LTE doesn't work. They will probably be able to help get you going again. I know I had a similar issue a while back with an S3, the carrier had to activate something on their end for me to get back on LTE.

I've been using my LG G3 for almost one month, signal strength is weak compared to others, not sure if a software or hardware issue, you don't need to compare it to an iPhone, this simple Moto E2 I'm using now gets twice the signal strength, both LTE and better voice calls.
Were I was unable to speak, now I can and getting less call drops.

Love the G3 many other features, hope a Android Marshmallow will be able to fix this weakness

It's something that changed with ATT. I've had the G3 since the beginning and never had any issues with dropped calls, lte data consistency or heat. In the last few months since the last major update, calls drop on almost every call, I loose signal in places where I never did before and the phone gets hot when wifi is on but not connected to an access point. I am completely stock.
I have factory reset twice and the second time I didn't add any apps at all. I just set up my Gmail account.

I even got a new SIM from ATT.

It is so bad that I have gone back to my G2 which is not having any of these problems.
Side by side the G2 has 2 bars of signal and the G3 has zero.

I get poor LTE signal on my Verizon G3. It mostly stays on 3G. And takes a long time to switch to LTE once I am in a strong LTE area.
