Flashing Customer Roms???

EVO 3D has been rooted with HBOOT 1.5 S-On for several months now running RC3 of Viper Rom I believe is what it had. I can Flash a stock Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.1 RUU , or I can recovery from a Nandroid backup of my old Viper Rom. I however cannot flash any other custom ROM on this phone. I have tried several all from good sources. It will just go to the HTC Boot Screen and stay stuck there. I have been using TWR Recovery I believe is what its called. I have read that I should use FlashimageGUI so I am going to try this. In the meantime I was wondering if anyone has ran across this problem before, or am I just overlooking something.
Any help would be appreciated. I believe I may have to go back to factory and restart the entire process over.

Yes, you will either have to flash the Rom using fastboot, or use "Flash Image GUI". The problem is, is that when your S-on your custom recovery cannot write to your boot partition so when your flashing your roms, there's no kernel being flashed. Which in turn is why you get stuck at the boot screen. Now, to this day, there is several ways you can flash kernels with S-on. You can use the above 2 ways, and if you use fastboot to flash your kernel, first extract your boot.IMG from your Rom, then boot into recovery, flash your Rom as usual, then stay in recovery after you flash and reboot into your bootloader, connect your phone to your pc, now on your pc take your boot.IMG and place it in the same folder you have your fastboot file and adb file. Now after your pc finds your phone in bootloader mode, open a command prompt window by navigating to your fastboot folder and right click on a empty space inside that folder and while holding the shift key, and a pop-up menu should pop-up, so choose the "open a command prompt window here". Now in the cmd window type " fastboot flash boot boot.img", and hit enter. It should flash your boot.IMG and you should be good. You can also use the 4EXTRecovery.

you can also use fastboot from bootloader to get in to recovery and you can flash the rom and boot img in one flash

fastboot boot recovery

then flash your rom and your good to go
