flashing rom questions

ok i have a few flashing questions

before i flash i do a back up, then I should clear cash memory and delete data. once i do that and flash a new rom.
1. how would i get all my old text msg. back or do i loose them. do i have to reconfigure my other email, ringtones, and other setups?

2. what is the big differance between 2.2 stock and gb 2.3

when i rooted my phone the main reason was to get free wifi.

Yes do a full wipe. Your text will be lost. On a newly flashed rom you have to set up your Gmail account. Get Titanium Backup from the market to backup your apps. You will have to set ringtones. I really don't see any big differences between 2.2 and 2.3 besides looks and minor tweaks. That also depends on which rom you're flashing.

You can use MyBackup Root to save your SMS, MMS, plus others.

As like eldub1 said, it depends which rom you use. I didn't really see much a difference in the stock 2.2 to the stock leaked 2.3.

theres also a app in the market called sms backup and thats what i use. when you reset your phone for any reason just re download the app log into your gmail and it will restore all your messages
