Flashing T-Mobile to Att Note 8

So I just switched to T-Mobile from att. ATT provided an unlock code for my note which worked fine. With the T-Mobile sim installed things seem to be working. Have LTE and calls and text working.

I don’t see any options for WiFi calling though. Is that the benefit to flashing the carriers software? Is that the only change? Thanks in advance for the help and info.

You won't be able to do WiFi calling unless you flash the T-MOBILE firmware. Thats one of the features you lose when you bring a phone from another carrier

Thanks. I’ll have to see if the features are really need in my case I guess. I used WiFi calling with ATT at home. May not need it with T-Mobile

Well, in order to switch to another carrier firmware you have to root right?

If I remember correctly, Samsung Pay won't work if the phone is rooted for security reasons unless someone has found a work around.

I wouldn't think so as Samsung pay is on all the Notes and an app

No you don't have to root to flash carrier firmware. Just use Odin. There are directions on what you need and how to flash over on XDA.

Once Oreo comes out you won't have to flash anything. The note will switch carriers to whatever sim is installed in the phone. Until then read this thread and follow the carrier switching/flashing carrier firmware instructions, or just install the unlocked firmware and get TMobile features with no bloatware.

I'm not sure where you got that information from. But I'm almost certain that can't be true. I'm pretty sure that would be impossible.

Maybe Google before basically saying I'm wrong. The S8 and S8 plus carrier switch automatically on Oreo. I also have a T-Mobile Note 8 running an early Oreo build that switches to at&t when I throw in a non active sim. It switches the boot logo to att and adds their bloat. Check my for sale add in the marketplace for photos.

Can you send me a link? Not saying your wrong but I that's first I heard of that.

My apologies I did see where they say it will run whatever carrier sim you are using. That's interesting

I appear to have messed something up. Firmware continues to fail saying file mismatch

Fails in Odin? Try downloading the firmware again would be my suggestion. You could also try the prince comsey version of odin, or just download the unlocked firmware and give that a flash, or look in to installing the early oreo build.

If I remember correctly, the last firmware update that Samsung released, disabled the ability to flash firmwares using Odin. It doesn't matter if they are official or not, only the firmware that the phone shipped with can be flashed such as T-Mobiles or AT&T or whatever.

There are alternatives to be able to flash the other carrier firmware but you have to figure that out on XDA.

If true then alternate methods if requiring root... would break Samsung pay I’m guessing.

Downloaded the att firmware that was on xda and it worked. Do now have the T-Mobile splash when booting and Wi-Fi calling is working now. Software version shows tmobile and att now.
