To those who have the finances to switch between phones as they please and want to be on the bleeding edge of mobile technology, and to those who are undecided between getting the Evo 3D/Samsung Galaxy S II/Photon/Nexus 23x 5gs Prime, let me just say that all these phones are great, and you'd be lucky to have any one of them. That said, you shouldn't buy a phone based on out-of-the-box performance. I know right now the reigning champ is the GS2 by majority as far as which phone is superior, but who cares? All the speed/responsiveness/performance of the GS2 or any phone for that matter can be crippled with one crappy OTA from Samsung.
What happens if the GS2 gets an OTA that slows it down, or the Evo 3D gets an OTA that speeds everything up? Are you going to keep flip flopping back and forth between phones? My point is, is that out-of-the-box performance of these phones are irrelevant. The internals of all these phones are great and you're not guaranteed the performance and stability that you currently see.
IMHO, I'm slightly disappointed in the Evo 3D's current performance when compared to the SGSII. Especially when after I watched this video: HTC EVO 3D vs. Samsung Galaxy S 2 (Video)
But why I would still pick the Evo 3D over this any day is because the performance of either phone can be modded or hacked to whatever I want. It's the hardware that I care about, and so far the Evo 3D is able to keep up with the SGS2 WHILE PUSHING 20% MORE CONTENT (I don't know if it's actually 20%, lol I just know it's more). I know that in whatever ways the SGS2 can one-up my Evo 3D, I can eventually do the same or better with my Evo 3D (assuming development will be off the hook on this phone). HTC is also known to pump out OTA's like it's no tomorrow, so even if you're not into rooting, know that whatever problems you have with the phone now is TEMPORARY, and will not last forever.
HTC has earned my respect over the years with their timely OTA's, fantastic build quality, and quick response to customer outcries, whereas Samsung has been consistently deaf to the demands of the Android community and has deliberately taken advantage of their customers, burning us in the past. Whatever missed success they receive in the US market, they earned every single bit of it with their gimped Galaxy S variants and ungodly slow firmware updates. I don't care how good the phone is now, it doesn't mean it will be good in a few months without proper support. Plus, if I wanted my android phone to look and behave like an iphone, I would get an iphone. And as for you Motorola... sigh. I tried to love you but pumping out new droids every 2 weeks with each somehow actually being worse than the last, and that god-awful Webtop... they're working in the wrong direction.
