As we all know the HTC Flyer has been available for pre-order now; but I saw the price of accessories online today.
The Flyer will not be coming with the Stylus; it is an accessory. It is 79.99
The Flyer also has an official leather case with a stylus holder. That is 34.99.
There is also a combo package of the stylus and case for 109.99

I know this is in contrast to the other rumors going around; here is my best guess.

The Flyer - wifi will not be shipping with the stylus.

The Flyer - cell contract model will be shipping with the stylus.

Since the stylus can easily be lost, logic would dictate that one would be able to purchase a stylus for that reason.

I have posted a youtube video in this forum of a wifi flyer being unboxed... in the box was a stylus.

I was in Best buy today pre ordering my flyer. If you pickup best buys mobile buying guide and go to the page on the flyer there is a specific footnote that directs you to the bottom of the page and it says stylus sold seperately. I don't see how a deliberate footnote could be a typo. It seems like we will have to buy Stylus seperately.

That's disappointing, but I guess not really unexpected.

EDIT: In case there was any lingering doubt, just found this forum post from a Best Buy rep on a Best Buy forum saying it's sold separately.

Thank you for this url!

I called BB while ago to request the pen be added to my Flyer pre-order so I wouldn't have to pay two shipping fees, but nada.

Because of HTC's advertising, I've decided to wait till I actually receive the Flyer and see inside the box. Nothing has been clear from either HTC or BB about the pen in their ads. I'm holding out from ordering the pen (available only from BB for Business site today) till I know for certain because I surely don't relish paying for shipping twice.

If the pen is not included with the Flyer, perhaps I'll be able to purchase one instore by the time I receive the Flyer . . . Of course, that additional purchase would be an IRK to me for sure.

The Flyer seems perfect for my needs and I'm still excited about it, but the pen's actual uninclusion will surely make me downright distrustful of HTC's future ads . . .

It is interesting to consider the marketing strategy of Best Buy on this one. Are they saying that this is a niche market and that the buyers consider this an important feature and that they will pay extra for it even after paying $499 for the Flyer and that their sales will not suffer due to the increased final cost? I will wait for the final pricing once the stylus is posted for order on the same site where we pre-ordered the Flyer and decide if the cost is justifiable.

Either that, or they're saying they have the monopoly on 7" tablets with pen input (which, until Asus gets the EEE Pad MeMO off the ground, is true) and they're going to milk it for all it's worth. Or maybe that's just a second, more accusatory way of saying the same thing.

LOL! That is my post on the BBY forum, and I was just coming on THIS site to update y'all about BBY's response.... ;)

In any case, I think it's totally BOGUS that I am going to pay $500 for a device and then have to cough up close to another $100 to get the full use of the feature that makes the device so worthwhile for me. Boo BBY. Boo HTC for letting them get a way with it.

I messaged Doug who is one of the moderators on the Best Buy forum who posted the reply and I am showing his 2 replies below. At this point it is not certain that the digital scribe will be priced at $80 as he states and I have expressed to him that the single core processor, no led flash, Android 2.4 with a $499 price tag for the Flyer was acceptable, for most of us because of the scribe technology and that at this point the acceptance bar had been raised. For me I am taking a wait and see position and waiting for the final pricing. Hopefully my words will not fall on deaf ears.

Sprime,

I'm honestly not sure whether any kind of pre-order or accessory bundle will be offered at this time. The Pen is currently up on our Best Buy? Direct for Business site for $79.99, but prices are subject to change before release.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other quesitons.

Reply Two:

SPrime,

I'm sorry if things haven't been entirely clear. The Digital Scribe Pen is not listed under the "what's included" section on the Flyer's page of our website, and we do call out under the features on our main Flyer page that it "Works with optional digital pen to help you create masterpieces with a stroke of a paintbrush, take multimedia notes or even sign digital documents." We certainly aren't trying to be ellusive and want you to know as much as possible so that you can make an informed decision. I have confirmed with our buying team that works with HTC that the pen is definitely not included at this time.

I hear that you're a little frustrated that this wasn't more obvious. I'm sure there are other customers out there like you and I've passed your feedback up the chain for more visibility. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Please let me know if you have any other quesitons.

Doug

Very good, S Prime! Do you suppose several of us messaging Doug would affect any BB decision? If so, please give us instructions . . . I suppose we pm him in the BB forum?

This is the link to the post on the forum, you will need to register but after you do, I suggest you post a reply and then look for a post from Doug-BBY and select private message at the lower right corner of the post and you can send him a personal message. If we get enough communication to Best Buy they will possibly react to our frustration. We at least have someone?s ear at Best Buy who has corporate input, so use it.

This is a bummer... cant believe HTC would leave out the pen.

Found a few unboxing sites on the european flyer... they all include a pen.

at 3:05 you see a pen in the box:
YouTube - HTC Flyer - unboxing (rozpakowanie)

This dutch site selling the 16gb wifi Flyer includes a stylus:
HTC Flyer Wi-Fi 16 GB - Tabletcenter.nl

The pen is included when you purchase the flayer. However if you lose it will cost you $80.00 to replace it.

My main concern is that HTC will ship it with the pen in Europe, because the trade regulations in Europe are far more consumer-friendly (heck, in some European countries it's illegal to sell SIM-locked phones!), but Best Buy will strong-arm them into NOT shipping the pen in the US. Doug over on the BBY forum seems pretty convinced that they're not getting Flyers with the pen in the box.

At this point I guess we will play the "Wait and See " game, until the Flyer ships or Best Buy clarifies it on the order site
