FM radio in Note 4

As far as can tell, there is no FM radio built into the N4 (at least the Verizon version.)

Is there an app or other way to get a plain old over-the-air FM radio on the N4?

Ive looked at the Google Play store, but sorting through the results would take forever.

Thanks.

The FM capable phones have a real FM radio built in. The note doesn't so you won't be able to pick up signals directly from the air.

However, many AM and FM stations broadcast over the internet as well as over the air. There are quite a few apps that let you listen to internet broadcasts using WiFi or Cellular data. FWIW, I use an app called TuneIn radio to listen to AM and FM stations.

Thank you. That was exactly the kind of suggestion I was looking for. Something to narrow down the choices a little.

I was playing around with Slacker radio last night, thinking maybe it did that, but if it did, I couldn't find it before I hit its 5-swipe/reject limit. :) .

I heart radio is a great one

On my Sprint variant, I have an app called Nextradio. I have to plug in headphones and it uses them as an antenna and I can get local stations.

What model of Note 4 do you have? There are some hardware variances by region, but I've never seen specs showing that any Note model comes with a dedicated FM receiver built in. My North American SM-N910W8 definitely does not have a receiver and as such the Nextradio app will not work.

Works with my SM-N910P in US.

Darn... Now I'm jealous.

I have an FM radio transmitter that I sometimes use to stream content on my computer out to me when I'm on my lawn tractor cutting grass on my property. Currently I use a Sony Walkman connected to a set of Bose noise cancelling headphones.

It would be so nice to use my Note 4 instead of the Walkman. But no.. Nextradio says it isn't compatible with my device. :(

It's a SM-910V. Verizon.

I've installed TuneIn Radio. It seems to work alright for pulling in OTA FM radio. Though I'm not sure what to make of the way pressing the pause button stops the stream where it is, and pressing it again resumes from where it left off, rather than from wherever the stream has progressed to, which isn't what I'd have expected.

Most new smart phones have FM Receivers built in. Its your provider that has it disabled.

They do this so they can collect more money from you for data streaming.

Contact them and tell them to enable the FM Chip. We all need to start standing up to these nasty companies once and for all.

Download Next Radio app and if you get an error message tap the provided links to get a message to your provider. They provide everything , including the message to send, but tapping the send icon on your phone. It can't be any easier than that.

That's why it's a pause button. Use the stop button instead. Or buy the full app and record programmes to listen to later.
