FM radio spontaneously scans

While listening to one of the radio station I set, all of a sudden the radio starts to scan all the stations. I can't seem to turn off the scan. I have to unplug the headphones and restart the FM radio. Anyone else having spontaneous scans? How do you stop a scan? (Otherwise, the radio works fine, clear reception in So. Calif).
