FM tuner: Work for anyone?

I tried out the FM tuner and it does not seem to work very good at all. A quick test right here in my office and I get nothing but static on one of my favorite stations. However, if I hook up to my Sansa Fuze mp3 player (which also has built in FM tuner) it works perfectly.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

did you plug headphones in to the phone? it uses the wires in the headphones as an antenna to get the FM signals

lol Yes of course I did.

Maybe I got a dud. My unit also appears to have led flashes that are slightly loose, and sometimes make a slight rattling noise when I set the phone down on my desk (http://forum.androidcentral.com/droid-incredible/11405-something-rattling-there.html). Plus I also have very weak cell phone signal. The signal indicator on the home screen is usually at 0 to 1 bar. Highest I've ever seen it was at 3 bars and that was rare. Signal strength indicator in the settings menu usually shows worse than -90dbm.

I've already downloaded a few apps, customized the home screens, and loaded up my mp3's. So I hate to have to take it back in and get it replaced. But I may have to do that anyway. :(

BTW, just in case it had anything to do with the quality/length of the headphone wires, I tried two different ones, with the same results.

My old headphones I got with my curve work fine for this. One of the fringe stations had a little static but all in all they sound just as good as any walkman style radio i've tryed here.

Ok, well since I have a couple of issues with this one, maybe I'll go to the Verizon store and see if their demo unit is any better. Or, better yet, hopefully they still have some in stock and I can try one of those.

The quality of the wiring and length of the wiring on the headphones would come into play. But I think you have bigger issues to worry about with the loose led's and noises coming from it. I think I would be going back to the store for a swap out.

Does Android not have some type of software for PC of Mac that lets you backup device and reload apps similar to Desktop Manager for BB? If so, what's it called? I'd like to look it up and read some more about it.

There could be. If fact, I hope so! This is my first smartphone though, so I'm still learning.

any 3.5mm wire should work as antenna

i think you can stick in any kind of 3.5mm wire and it will work fine as an antenna. i have an audio adapter that is 3.5mm input on one end to a tape adapter on the other. i plug it into my phone and play music in my car through the tape player. i was surprised that the FM tuner also works with this. works great actually!

I think it's great that we've come full circle with this! The old handheld transistor radio was one of the first portable music players around. Now we've got the most advanced phone (for now) that actually has an old-fashioned radio inside!

I love it that you're getting radio in your car by connecting your mini-computer phone through a cassette deck. I thought I was the only one left that had a tape deck in the dash of my car. :)

It's good to know that if you're ever in a place with no wifi and no cell towers, you can still listen to FM radio... if you're batteries don't die and you happen to have your headphones with you in the middle absolutely of nowhere.

I got mine to work finally... sorta. I have to be outside (read: better signal). And I have to hold the phone at arms length, effectively straightening the "antenna" (headphone wire) out. THEN, I can listen to the radio! For comparison, my Sansa Fuze works fine indoors and with the headphone wire all crumpled up. So either the FM tuner in the Incredible is really crummy, or the tuner in my particular phone is hosed. I'm heading back to Verizon today or tomorrow for an exchange. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
