Foggy/Hazy Photos?

Is this normal? The lens is clean, my indoor lighting conditions aren't terrible, but there seems to be a pronounced haziness to my photos. Is this widespread, or might I have a hardware issue specific to my phone?

Are there lots of small scratches on the coating over the plastic camera lens cover? I don't personally have an M8 (I have an S5 and a 5S) but I just read part of a thread on this forum last night in which many, many people were having similar issues.
