I've been a webOS user for about a year and half and I've used an iOS device for work for about 6 months as well. My webOS devices worked great - but the application selection and the tiny screen wore on my wife and eventually she wanted something that could do Netflix and something that had more future than the Pre Plus seems to have at the moment with HP in undecidedville. Given her relatively lack of technical expertice - I felt it smart to be on the same basic platform so that when she complains X doesn't work - I can say why... pun intended.
In any case, I consulted the local craigslist and ended up with a Droid 2 Global and a Droid X for pretty reasonable prices - this way I figured we could tinker and if we did not like them - sell them and buy something else.
So far it's a like-dislike relationship. After webOS Android feels very incomplete and kinda tinkertoy like or erector set 'ish. iOS on the other hand feels very polished but has weaknesses in terms of the ability to configure anything custom. And frankly my wife is in love with her Droid X screen size - which the iPhone cannot offer.
Both of my phones were OTA upgraded to Gingerbread and both seem quirky to me. I had very stable Pre Pluses and those phones had a reputation for crashing and being slow - but my Android phones both have had more crashes of apps (force closes) and occasional crazy glitches - my phone stopped working as a phone one day for hours - then worked again as soon as I called it (despite being able to text and browse internet over 3g! and despite multiple reboots!). And despite the 1.2ghz processor - I don't find the phone all that fast which surprises me.
I'm just curious - are my expectations for a polished strongly configurable device just - pipedreams?
Last but not least - since I have a device that isn't totally useless I'm contemplating looking at the VZW offerings in the future - what devices with upcoming release dates have you guys salivating? I have no strict timetable - so it could be after the turn of the year.
