For Once ATT Comes Thru for Me!!!

I thought I would share this with the community because of the possibility that some (like me) cancelled their ATT early and switched to Sprint for the Evo.

I had about 4 months left (ETF is about $80) and cancelled for the Evo, because I would make that money back with the cheap Sprint service and wanted the new toy.

Recently got a bill from ATT charging me for 6/1-7/2 (apparently this is another gay ATT policy, where if you cancel early they will charge you for the full month's bill for the last billing cycle) and when I called to dispute it, the rep waived the ETF, prorated June bill to 6/1-6/4 and when the balance came out to $2.03 HE WAIVED THAT TOO!

So I basically was able to cancel and swap without having to pay ATT a dime, and cant believe that when I decide to leave ATT, they were completely fair and helped me out big time.

I have my fingers crossed that the Evo battery and WiFi issues will be resolved or I may be returning it for a new iPhone. Yes the new iPhone isnt that impressive, but at least the battery life will be better than the mere 6-7hrs I'm currently getting.

For those that cancelled early, I would suggest calling ATT and trying to get everything wavied.

That's cool that they helped you out like that. I've had good experiences with Sprint CS myself during my bb days. Of course it's like eating at a restaurant and one day you get the best waiter, the next time you get the worst, but the food is routinely good (i.e. Sprints service, for me anyway).

I have noticed in my house the wifi is all over the place, unless I am upstairs in the room with the router. Battery for me has not been good, but this is my first Android phone and I'm thinking that I just need to find the right configuration for what I want the phone to do. I do need to be able to make it through the day however, so I am not selling my bb bold 9650 at this point.

Yeah I was told if I come back within 59 days I can keep my number, so with 30 day money back guarantee, I will tweak the Evo until I can get at least 12-14 hrs out of the battery.

The battery issue is the most critical at this point since with even only 1 WiFi bar I dont notice a significant drop in loading, etc.

I have been trying every way to extend the battery life and got it to about 9hrs today, so I'm hoping I can get another 3-4 hrs more.

Battery? I keep hearing that but I don't get it. I am getting 12+ hours of battery life every day with my evo! Not sure I am doing anything special though

Thought I would share a battery update with everyone. The phone has been off charge now for 10 1/2 hours. Today was my first real busy day at work since getting the phone and I made and received several calls today. Then I went to the gym and used the music while there. The battery is currently at 50%! I think the phone and battery are great just my thoughts though

Wow! That's amazing. I guess they don't want any more negative publicity huh? Especially from previous customers of theirs. I wonder why?!... oh wait!

I dont know I tried all the battery tips and was only able to get 9 hours.

This is with minimal music, internet, gmail, etc. So far this has been the biggest issue for me and will be a deal breaker.

I doubt you will get 12-14 out of an iphone.

Not to mention, ATT's plans & service are HORRIBLE. I just found out today that their $30 iphone data premium doesn't even include text messaging ! Not to mention their new data plans are INSANE.

have you tried a task killer? what about a portable battery charger that charges through microUSB ? Im getting about 10-11hrs on mine with the task killer and quite moderate use.

Pick a carrier first, then pick your phone.

Don't let your device pick your carrier, its gotta be win win on both sides.

Dig around this forums and Google and try some of the suggestions. You should really consider using some Task Managers to help the OS prioritize what needs and should be running in the background.

I am able to get more than a day's worth of battery life on mine with pretty heavy use.

Yeah.. i am about to have to make that call.. just activated today!! As far as battery life.. i know its bad now.. BUT.. i am SURE that when more custom roms come out, AND Froyo is released.. it will be MUCH MUCH better!! IMO

BTW... switching from AT$T to sprint i am saving $100 a MONTH!!!!! WOW!!

Im following everything the websites are saying plus running ATK.

Also to sYnOnYx I was getting 12-14 out of my iPhone 3G, so I KNOW it can get that much out of it even with 1.5yrs of use.

and for that matter.. i will probably NEVER own an iPhone or any apple product for that matter.... I cant stand Steve Jobs and his BS.. not to mention i HATE being trapped into something without options... and that is ALL their products are designed to do.. plus.. i dont have the yuppie "i am so good" attitude required for an iPhone.. :p

That maybe true, but in past experiences I could never get more than 9 with hardly any use.

Funny how you have no recourse when it comes to getting raped with sand and no lube by ATT's plans

LOL, I see your point but I could care less what brand I'm using. If its something I like I will buy it, I dont have brand loyalty, since the companies dont do anything for me other than take my money.

I love the Evo, but if the battery cant keep up with me than its not a phone for me. I dont want to go back to the iPhone either, since I think the iPhone 4 isnt really that innovative and they are just playing catch up but because they are Apple they get that nice media spin.

We'll see how the battery performance improves/holds up for me within the next 27 days or so, then I will make a decision.

I agree, its a shame that it is with ATT and I will get butt raped by them. But I really hope that my Evo battery will improve within the next two weeks. So keep my fingers crossed!

I'm glad AT&T did you right. It was a smart move on their part. If for some reason Sprint gives you trouble they left a good impression with you. The chance you may come back is worth more then what they waved.

Yeah.. well.. from what i have heard.. after a few days of good use.. the battery performance is supposed to improve. I know they say these arent supposed to have "memory" with regards to the battery.. but i plan to FULLY charge and then run it down to 0 a few times.. i think this should condition the battery hopefully for better performance...

If not.. there are a few higher capacity batteries that are out that are the same physical size as the stock and i may try one of those...
