Chomp SMS uses DATA (Internet) to send texts not Sprint's sms service. Therefore you will NOT experience the duplicate texts issue. Chomp SMS is a very popular and very well done app. There are a lot of customizations options available. I have usex this spp extensively and have had zero duplicate texts. Chomp SMS is from the same developers who created Textra. There you have it... a better workaround than switching to 3G to send a text!

Good tip!
I was looking for an SMS app that uses data... BUT... can be sent to any number as a text. That way people you text didn't need to use the same app such as Whatsapp, Viber and etc. I really hope that those who experience the duplicate texts issue will find this thread useful.

What on earth are you talking about? Where does it say in the description that this app uses data for texts? This app uses SMS (and cellular data for MMS) like any other SMS app.

Google it.. I'm not going to do it for you. I would not have posted this if I didn't know what I was talking about. Furthermore... since I have been using Chomp SMS the texts I send don't show up as sms on my bill.

Here.. I'll humor you :

Let's keep the discussion cool, shall we guys? All on the same team here.

I checked what apps used data. ChompSMS used 1.6 mb of data. I never sent an MMS. Texts only.

Good tip!

Great news! I posted this tip on the Nexus 6 forum over at the Sprint Community Forums and a Sprint CS Rep replied that Sprint will be sending out a fix for this issue in the next maintenance release. It doesn't really matter to me as I will continue usinng ChompSMS. I prefer it over the stock messaging app because of the customizations available. But for those who are waiting...a fix is on the way....soon?

I haven't had the dupe SMS issue so much lately. Maybe sprint had a back end fix. I think it happened twice yesterday. It was no where near as bad the first week I had this phone, I wasn't getting calls or SMS, or vm's.

Perhaps the towers in your area were being upgraded and that's why you had issues. Are your download speeds faster?

Yea my speeds are up, and def more consistent. Android 5.1 according to sprint should fix the dupe issue. So far so so good though.

So just ran a test, and chomp SMS for sure uses SMS NOT data.

I turned off my mobile data, and went to send a text, it was not sent. Turned on wifi only, phone radio on airplane mode, and it still was not sent. Only sent when my phone signal was turned back on.

Also my carrier bills me at sending 4,000 texts a month, all of which I do through Chomp, if Chomp does it over data, then that number should be 0.

When all else fails, the numbers.
SMS has a maximum data capacity of 140 bytes. My phone's data usage says that Chomp has used 4.38 MB in 2 days.

That is 31,000 full page text messages I "sent"

In addition, look at the in app settings. CDMA networks requires a "CDMA" split to send the message, basically every 160 characters a new text. If chomp was data, then why wouldn't they get rid of the limit?

Right. Like I said.
