Does the Nexus have a call blocking feature built into the operating system? I've seen a number of posts here & there about using Android's "Call Rejection" feature but on my stock Razor Maxx, it's not present. It occurred to me that the provider edition phones may have had the feature removed thus, the Nexus question.

It seems incredible that a simple & effective call blocker is not integrated into the Android OS & we have to resort to 3rd party app as defense against the spammers & telemarketing clowns.

I'm not certain on the answer for this but a reason it may not be in stock vanilla Android is due to varying laws in different parts of the world that would be violated by incorporating such a feature. In turn best option for Google maybe to omit this feature from its vanilla code base and leave it to the 3rd party developers and individual OEMs or carriers to add if they wish.

Perhaps, but the Apple version is both easy to use & works unobtrusively. The problem with the Android apps are, they're either only marginally effective or, incorporate too much extraneous functionality. I'd just love to see a plain, yet efficient, call blocker such as the one Apple uses in os7. You'd think that just Apple including one on their latest OS would be sufficient incentive for an Android feature that seems to become more needed every day.

I couldn't locate one on my stock Nexus 5. I use Call Blocker (Blocker) by embware. It offers a lot of features I don't use but easy to blacklist unwanted numbers. If I recall, it's not as easy as iOS blocker. I think I had to input numbers.

Not necessarily call blocking but pretty much works the same. You'll have to have the contact in your People app. Open the contact, tap the 3-dot menu button, select the All Calls to Voicemail radio button.

I know but, that's a poor substitute for a true call block. Unfortunately, this is also the method used by *most* of the call blocking apps but to be fair, some will quickly answer & then disconnect the call. The 3rd party app solution certainly beats nothing but with the pervasive nature of the spamming calls, it just seems nonsensical not to have the ability to truly block numbers build into the OS.

I generally don't care for the iPhone OS whatsoever and find it generally cumbersome to navigate with a "dated" feel to it. Overall, Android seems to me to be advancing at a much quicker rate. I was astounded to find the simple call block built into my wife's iPhone 4S and even more at how well it works. This is something that Google really needs to address and it certainly should not require any major tuning to accomplish.

Just checking...are you in the states? If you don't have your number on the "Do not call list" ( Simple to add it online) Your getting 10 times the amount of spam calls that you would if you were on that list. My spam calls went to zero after adding it. The iphone in our family reduced them to maybe 2 a month.(Social networks seems to make them worse)

Placing your numbers on the Do Not Call list is such a no-brainer I didn't even think of mentioning it! 😜

All our phone numbers have been on both the federal and our state's "Do Not Call" regestries since their inception. Unfortunately, the offenders do not tend to follow legal responsibility. More often than not, the numbers appearing in Caller ID are "spoofed" anyway. The phone companies are unable (or perhaps, unwilling) to take any action and the Call Registries have no enforcement ability, pretty well depends on voluntary compliance.

Honestly, I've only had a few of these on my phone but my wife's iPhone number was being besieged. Some of these cretins have managed to attach charges if you so much as answer the call so therefore, even the apps than answer a blocked number & quickly disconnect are not adequate protection.

The simple solution is a clean, simple, call rejection feature as part of the operating system. It's going to happen eventually (as Apple has recognized and addressed) and the sooner Android follows suit the better. I recognize the problem is minimal to non-existent for most including, myself but for those impacted and harassed daily it's a real problem that can be easily corrected.
