Is this thing worth getting? I kind of want one, but I want to see what those that have it think.

I was on the fence of "I don't think so. It does everything my Android Phone does already." But after having it for a couple of days im going to keep it. Sure there are a few quirks that I dont like but what device doesnt. It truly does everything my phone does plus more. I currently have an evo with sense on it so it is a different experience with touchwiz installed on the tab and I like it. Touchwiz does a few things better than sense as far as business wise for me. For those that have samsung devices already it may not be a big deal to you but for me it works well. Ultimately you have to see if the tab fits your lifestyle or not.

A week before Verizon launched the tab I had no plans on getting one but went there on launch day and ended up walking out with one. So far I'm very satisfied with the device, the size seems perfect, its very easy to type in portrait and will fit in my coat pocket. Like said above there are a few minor bugs but every new device has a few issues at launch.

the hardware is whats about.

this is not a competition to a phone, although there are functional overlaps.

This is easy on the eye. You can also cancel the data plan on one of your device to save some $$$.

I like it so much, I sold my iPad! I much prefer the smaller form factor. The only thing I miss from the iPad is the fantastic PDF application - GoodReader, I wish they would port it to Android :(

I voted yes, but with the caveat that you need to have the right expectations of what you want to get out of it.

For me? It's an e-reader that supports both my Kindle account and my wife's Nook account. It's a portable device for use with instant messaging devices. An easy to use camera that i'll have with me at most times, made more convenient than my Cliq XT due to Photoshop Express. Web browsing, especially with the Firefox beta and Sync of my bookmarks.

Gaming works great, Youtube works great, and the Tethering feature being enabled is fantastic.

I just went and looked at one. Very nice and seems to run good. However, for what I would use it for, I think I would reach for my DroidX more often.

I can't seem to justify spending $600.00 just for the larger screen.

By the way, I would probably carry my DroidX with me at all times any way, as I plan on using its WiFi hot spot feature to provide data to the Tab.

If the price drops by a bunch, I may reconsider, but for now, I think I will pass.

By the way -- Thanks for all of the feed back everyone. Keep it coming as someone else may find this useful.

It's kinda interesting because almost 3 years ago I wrote a blog post on what an "e-reader" should be, and then I got the Tab yesterday and looked at my post again and it was fricken spot on or better.

I don't usually like to spam forums with my site, but this is so close:
What's in an eBook reader?

I've shown it to some iPad users at work and they've been really taken with the smaller size. I think some of the application support in games isn't quite there yet, but it's nice to see games like Angry Birds end up cross platform.

The point isn't that it's just a bigger screen than your phone but it's more purpose built for a specific series of tasks, web browsing, reading, movies are all right up there. Thumb typing turns out to work really well on the Tab that's right on 3 times the size of my Evo. Samsung really took everything that was a pain about the iPad and fixed it. I even had a guy here say that the iPad was too top heavy and that the weight balance of the Tab is better for holding.

As I wrote in my blog post the Tab really is into sci-fi territory with it's capabilities, even though it is a bigger version of the phone.

I'm right there with you. Ever since the thing came out I've been saying that if I'm going to lug around something the size of an iPad, it's going to be a netbook so I can at least have a real keyboard and OS.

On Nov 26, Best Buy will have $50 off the Galaxy Tab. So total would come out to be $549 instead of $600.

You forgot the "yes, if it was cheaper" selection. Bought it, because I've been waiting since January for a quality Android tablet. I'm appalled that none of the tablets that were announced before the iPad have reached the market, the the Tab, which was started after the iPad, is already for sale.
