Force 1x

I get a terrible 3g signal at work and I think it kills my battery life. Does anyone know of a way to force my phone into 1x instead of 3g? I use juice defender to turn my mobile data completely off when I don't need it, but when I'm using 3g my battery drops very quickly. I've tried applications like Network to switch to CDMA only mode but haven't had any success. I'm rooted and wondering if there is a way.

There is only one way that I know of, if you have wifi connection inside that building, it will stop looking for 3g and only connect to the wifi. Even if the wifi doesn't allow for internet access it would still trick the phone into turning off 3G.
