Forgot screen lock password

I put a password on my samsung galaxy tablet the screen is locked I forgot the password is there any way to get in other than a hard reboot = losing all my information

If the tablet has a valid data connection, in theory you should be able to log into your Google Account, log in with the same account that's active on the device, and in the Device Manager there should be an unlock option for the tablet.
