Free/Sample music on new devices

When I got my replacement Nexus last week it came with the usual mix of free stuff, a film, some books, magazines and music. I quite liked on of the music tracks and intended on finding out more about the artist but for some reason when I went to look this morning all the sample music tracks have gone. I've no idea why and I can't remember the artists name at all.

Can people list the free music tracks they got on their device recently in the hope I'll recognise the artist?

My guess is that those free songs are in the Google Music cloud, rather than locally available on your N7. In the upper left corner of the Google Play Music app, does it say "All music" or "On device"? Make sure it says "All music," because if those free songs are still in the cloud and no longer physically on your device, they won't show up if you're only looking for music that is "On device."

In the Play Music app's settings, there's an option for "Automatically cache," which is checked by default. This means that when you play a song, it will automatically be downloaded to your device for temporary storage, in case you like listening to that song frequently. Since it's only a temporary cache, the app will locally erase that song later if you don't listen to it frequently (but again, the song should still be available in your Play Music cloud). I suspect that's what happened to you.

They've definitely disappeared. I've got no music on the device itself and "All music" just shows what I've uploaded to Google Music and I've even double checked by logging into Google Music from my PC and the free tracks were there last weekend and have now disappeared.

I think I may have accidentally deleted them when I cleared the automatically created playlists the other day.

I assumed, maybe wrongly, that the sample tracks would be the same on all recently purchased Nexus 7's.

Weird. I've noticed from time to time some random songs that I never bought or uploaded when I look at the "Home" section on Google Play Music on my desktop--I think those were free tracks from Google. I wonder if those rotate, or if they were only available temporarily.

Anyway, here's a link for other free tracks from Google Play: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...verview_theme_2011_10_29?hl=en&token=0KWJiXAN
