Free VPN to Surf Safely?

Is there an app or configuration like HotSpot has for the IPhone that allows you to serf securely through a vpn?

I would like to use this if I am in a coffee shop, airport etc...

There are VPN settings under Settings->Wireless & networks. Wouldn't this do it?

You need to connect to something. HotSpot was the connection that secured your internet connection/ Without knowing what to connect to the VPN settings are useless.

After some searching I think I found what I need to surf safely in a coffee shop or airport. TorProxy and Shadow seems to be what I was looking for.

I am not sure how well it will work but it seems to be the only thing out there for those of us that do not have VPN access with work.
