Anyway to enable\disable instant messaging for Skype but allow for voice and video calls to come through?

I have a problem where I'm receiving instant messages from skype and some are past messages... say if I just log-in I would get a bunch of old messages blowing up my phone. I would like to disable IM and only use it when I want IM on the phone.
