Posted a short while ago from Mark, the forum manager on Motorola's own owners forums......

"No such thing as MR3 or MR5 at this point. We've not even done a first MR on this phone."

I don't know how that's possible given that all 3 I went through had an MR1 installed on them unless that's the base build.

Assuming that Mark is truly someone official, this is not good news folks.

I just saw this too, and have been wondering why there has been no mention of a MR on the Moto Forums, while on all the Android forums, unofficial, random posters are crowing about "MR being rolled out now!" - ...as usual, internet BS.

...and 30 days is almost up.... :-(

Rep at a coporate Sprint store here. Apparently the update was supposed to be released, officially, today but was pushed back....I would probably say another week before we get the update.

People who installed the leaked MR3 from XDA have already gotten pushed the MR5, but as far as stock users, no one is past stock MR1 it would seem

I, for one, believe none of this... Sprint customer service will say anything,,,, and Moto says there have been NO MR's released for this phone yet.

?...and that they don't comment on rumors.

Anyone waiting for this rumored MR past the 30 day return period is playing with fire and very well might get burned....

ToddK I'm with you. When I thought the update was imminent I considered hanging onto my phone for the chance that the update came through and was well. But I'm going out of town at the end of the week and I can't keep this phone past 30 days.

Both of mine are going back this week. I got burned on the Moment and its not happening again.

Sprint told me September 9th is when the update is supposed to be released. To damn long so I'm probably returning and going to Verizon.

neva eva forget

A MR is called a "Maintenance Release". Its an update to the firmware/software running on the phone, but doesn't represent a change in the OS (Android 2.2 to say Android 2.3). Its typically used to smooth out bugs that users have reported and hopefully make the user experience better (no audio for phone calls, lag, battery life, crashes, reboots, etc) would be addressed. The Photon needs one pretty bad because of the no audio for phone call problem, and some other issues people have. Sadly many people will be over their 30 days (myself included) so they will probably return the phone before the update. Also note: September 9th is also the rumored Samsung Galaxy S2 date for Sprint.

That certainly address my update needs :D It's going to be sad packing up this Photon later today as I head back to my OLD OLD OLD Blackberry Curve for a week and a half till I know the status of the Galaxy S2. Maybe I'll just use the shattered screen Evo I have instead. Its only a week and a half right?

If you are unhappy with slow updates, going Samsung is prob a mistake.

Not probably, will be, I still have a epic that doesn't get reception and force closes apps. I'd go back to two cans and a sting before I bought another samsung device.

Same, also have terrible keyboard lag on stock, have to run a rom just to use the physical keyboard. Photon next week for me.

For me its a not a matter of slow or fast updates, its useability of the phone. I've had countless phone calls where I go to answer, no audio on either end, hang up, restart and try to call the person back. I'm returning because I need that basic functionality. I'm concerned about the length of time it is taking Motorola to address was is admittedly a pretty wide-spread problem. If I'm Moto I am turning around a fix for this as soon as possible. People who bought day 1 are VERY close to 30 days. I myself am just shy of 2 weeks away. If I wasn't going away I'd hold on till the last moment, but since I am, its going back. Aside from the audio problem I'm rather frustrated at apps that don't render properly on the qHD screen. Thing its a great display, but certain games are all jumbled.

They can't fix what they don't understand.... it could take weeks to figure it out. Once they do, then they can fix it.

My guess is they don't have a clue why this happening, what is causing it, or how to fix it. Like most people here, they are just trying different things, and hoping something works....

I’m guessing you’re talking about the update that fixes the “no audio” issue, which is driving me nuts. I spoke with a Sprint rep today and they said it should be out this Friday. I guess we’ll find out then.

This isn't a problem with the screen or Motorola but developers not supporting qhd. Its annoying I agree. Download spare parts + from the market open and scroll down to compatibility and unchecked it. Then reboot.
