Front facing camera in LG L34C - can it be used?

I have the LG L34C. There is a visible camera lens on the front of the phone, yet no camera app I've ever tried can use it. According to phone specs available online, this phone does not have a front-facing camera.
Question: Can the factory settings be overridden or hacked so that I can actually use the front-facing camera?

Welcome to Android Central! It has no front camera. Chances are what you're seeing is either an ambient light sensor or a proximity sensor.
