From what I have been reading from a lot of post on forums, I came to understand that "Froyo" has a built in task killer. so using a task killer only makes the problem worse. The problem I was having was I would task kill and 1 second later 17 more apps were open. I thought it was cause stupid carrier preloaded Skype and all these services that have to constantly run and when I task killed they would restart sucking juice from the battery. I uninstalled my "advance task killer" and tried like a few people have done and let the new software do its job. I have noticed a LARGE improvement. Also I have started using the back button, rather then just tapping home, to get out of apps as that's now how "Froyo" kills the apps. Also i have noticed, on the Easter egg of holding down the home key, that there is a utility called Rosie utility. I am not certain for 100% but I think that might be the "Froyo" Task kill.
Hope this help anyone out there that factory reset twice cause I didn't want to read :D
Pickle!

So what do you do when an app freezes? I shouldn't have to reset my phone to kill a dead app.

Every OS known to man has a way to kill a task. Taking the ability away makes no sense. Let's not pretend that Android has IRON SOLID code that never crashes.

I use ATK, and when I kill a task, more don't magically open up for me...

Setting>applications>running services or manage applications has ways for you to get in and force stop.

I added the shortcut to my home screen.
Long press > shortcuts > settings > running services

Nice post dude. Thanks. After reading this I left the damn things alone. So far VZ Navigator has turned itself off :)

Can't bring up that Easter egg!

Nothing new changed in Froyo, AFAIK, regarding Task Management (aside from curtailing third-party task killers' reach). Here is an article describing exactly how task management works.

Android Developers Blog: Multitasking the Android Way

FTA:
"The fact that you can see an application's process "running" does not mean the application is running or doing anything. It may simply be there because Android needed it at some point, and has decided that it would be best to keep it around in case it needs it again. Likewise, you may leave an application for a little bit and return to it from where you left off, and during that time Android may have needed to get rid of the process for other things."

I have read other articles that say killing tasks is counter productive because when you restart tasks/processes, the OS needs to go though a whole process, as opposed to when you just let the OS keep them lingering doing nothing, like it's designed to do.
