I'm getting anxious about Froyo for Captivate through At&T, does anyone have any updates? I know I can install myself, but would rather get the official one.

Although the Captivate is a good phone, this is my first Samsung phone, and if it doesn't come through, I'm done with them. If they can't complete, may go some place that can.

Last time I heard from one of their techs, suppose to be last week of October, which I don't believe but that's what they said. I didn't want to wait but rooted my phone, install ROM Manager and loaded Cognition 2.2 on it, brilliant, glad I did it.......

I believe Froyo is ready, just waiting on AT&T to disable a bunch of stuff and add a bunch of other stuff :p

done with who? samsung? the update isn't coming from them. at&t is notoriously late with updates. relax, francis.

But I still don't see a way to speak and call names from contacts to dial or send messages. Nothing in the link says anything about it

I'm running Cognition 2.2 beta 8.1, and indeed fixed the voice dialing issue, works wonders in Froyo, if you're running 2.1 you might want to download "Vlingo: Words to Actions", works just as good, recommended, I used it on 2.1 with great success.

Thanks will try it but was told it really ears up battery and uses lots of memory?

Raven71- I don't know whether or not the app will eat battery / use up memory (I doubt it, but that's a guess).

At some point though, worrying about battery life and memory can really spoil your enjoyment of the device. As long as you're getting enough battery life to last until you can get conveniently back to a charger, that should be enough.

These phones have beautiful screens, and fairly powerful processors- turn up the brightness, and use it :)

fldude - I would imagine that the update will probably be quite large (100Mb+?), so probably kies based. Nothing more than a guess on my behalf though.
AoN.
