Froyo Official for Galaxy S. Will Epic be far behind?

The words "gradually released to" with north america near the bottom of the list doesn't leave me with much hope that we will get it before 2011. The wait continues...

Since the Epic has a keyboard, there will more than likely be a longer wait time for the it to get Froyo. However, if Sprint is pushing updates as hard as it can, then we may see 2.2 at the same time as the other US Galaxy S phones.

We will get the update for the Epic probably late October. They said it takes time to rollout this update to 5 million phones.

what is "far" for you? It will be later... much later, but no one knows how much. In reality, Samsung probably has something working and sending to sprint soon. Sprint needs to load it with bloatware (I'm looking at you useless NASCAR app). Hopefully a lot of issues are resolved that we currently have, but as you all know, new issues will arise. Fortunately, There is less patching with Froyo than Eclair (and Donut/Cupcake before). Froyo natively supports WiMax, so no need to patch. CDMA support is better and HOPEFULLY, we will not have sleep issues, or issues with the phone trying to find a GSM signal, causing 50% time without signal. This can speed up the process of testing, but I do hope Sprint tests it thouroughly.

Having a keyboard won't delay updates. It's something that is natively supported in Android since the first Device, the G1. It didn't delay the Droid (1, and 2 came with it).

If Sprint treats Android updates like it treats Blackberry updates, we're in luck. When I had a Blackberry Sprint almost always was the fastest to roll out software updates. Either way I'm sure I'll be installing a leaked version long before an OTA hits my phone :)

My question is, yth is it "rolling out" in the Nordic region and every place else first. Are they a bigger market than North America or are they the guinea pigs?

Cmon, man. I'm just giving the Samsung response. Of course there's no huge difference :)

Keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath.
Sprint was great about blackberry updates (probably because they made more money on blackberry and corporate plans), but were pretty awful about WinMo updates.

Here's to hoping Android falls more on the side of BB than WinMo on their list of priorities...

I'd have to humbly disagree. I've been with sprint for quite some time, through palm treo's , blackberry's and now the epic. And they have always been one of the last to release the updates. When BB 5 came out I was running a leaked version for almost a 6 months before the OTA. My buddy over at the big V had his nearly a month before me.

I am hoping that Samsung keeps updating at a good clip. I got pretty used to getting updates on regular basis on my Pre.

With all of the GPS, Wifi and other issues Samsung better at a minimum release Froyo within a timely manner. If that doesn't happen, I will never buy another Samsung phone again no matter how awesome Android Central and CNET makes it out to be. The software related issues have been insane on this phone, especially coming from a manufacture who has all of the resources behind it. Samsung phones remind of Sony digital cameras, great name, Carl Zeiss len's, however, even at 10 mega-pixels the pictures are grainy and overall crappy. I guess the lesson is name recognition doesn't mean anything if don't use quality control and you push the crap out to the market before it's ready.

That might be true for Android, but that is not true for Touchwiz as evidenced by our limited 2.5 version of TW.

So unless Samsung is going to release straight Froyo (fat chance), I think it's fairly accurate to say that the Epic version of Froyo with whatever the next TW is going to be will be behind the rest of the North American variants of the Galaxy S Series.
