Froyo on the Intercept

My family has 3 Intercepts on Sprint. We have been having all kinds of problems with them and talked of paying the early termination fee and moving on. Well today we got the Froyo update! I told my wife and son when I ordered the phones that I got them because they were said to be getting an update. Froyo has changed our phones and we are now happy with them. They were so bad before that it didn't take much to make them better. I think that every android phone should be updated to Froyo, it makes such a big difference that it is unfair to users stuck on other versions. Just my thoughts!!

my gf has a Intercept and since froyo she is much happier with her phone, it used to lock up a lot, and also randomly reboot, sometimes she would not be able to answer phone calls, sometimes she wouldn't be able to make phone calls, It just behaved very sluggishly (is that a word??) and just acted like a real crappy phone (I have an evo so she always tries to compare it to mine which isn't fair to the intercept) but it does seem more responsive now.

I have 3 Intercepts on my account and they all worked fine prior to the update. I'm reserving judgement on the update to Froyo. Some of the changes I've noticed so far:

Pulldown top menu no longer has the buttons/controls for WiFi, Silent Mode, Vibrate, etc. Background of the top bar is now white vs black.

The phone interface has changed in that instead of holding the green answer button you now do a swipe to answer. and a swipe to hang up. Graphics changed.

The unlock is now a side to side swipe with silence included (ie swipe one way to unlock and the opposite to toggle sound on and off) vs an up swipe on the screen, graphics have changed.

Initially one of my phones would not notify of incoming calls, as in it would not vibrate nor ring. The call would go through but no indication on the phone that it was receiving a call, unless you were watching the phone. Yes sound was on and not set to silent. I've hard reset two of my three phones to get them functional and so far still having some minor issues with random ringtones, force closes on apps. (my contacts were backed up to gmail so no loss of contact info)

Alarm Clock seems to be intergrated into the Clock app which is ANALOG, I think it was separate before.

That's all i've noticed so far.

Froyo on Intercept

Changes to the phone that I've seen so far. The phone just moves faster all around. Used to freeze when a call would come in and I'd be unable to answer. The phone would also lock up when I'd get a text message if I was using the phone at the time. If the phone was in the middle of a sync and a call or text would come in I couldn't do anything about it. Loading web pages could take forever at times. Angry Birds would lag and take forever to start and the screen would just freeze. We had to limit our apps because the phone would get even slower if we had to many(we never had that many on in the first place). All three phones just sucked, my wife bit__ed every day about the phones. I felt like crap because I picked them out and told her they were okay phones. I'm sure you get the picture...

Since the update we have seen all of these problems completely clear up. The phones are faster and respond without fail. We have been able to answer all calls and respond to texts right away. Angry Birds plays and loads as expected. My son is using the apps he wanted to use in the first place. We are all much happier with the phone and I have heard a complaint since the update. Web pages load much faster and even battery life seems better! I guess that maybe because the phone is doing things faster and before it would drag along taking forever to do things. I used windows 6.5, 6.1 and 6.0 before moving to this phone and I was actually missing them before the update. Now android actually feels better then the phones I had in the past. There are some cosmetic differences and some features added here and there. Being able to use the devices as expected is far more important.

Thats about it I guess

Froyo on Intercept

One more thing! I have moved some apps to the sd card!! gotta love that....

Okay, one more thing(again). I just ran Neo Core on the intercept...lol I tried it before and it wouldn't run at all. Now, after froyo update, I get a whopping 11.3 fps :-)... Some is better then none!!!

my man has the samsung intercept, got the recent froyo update that went off without a hitch, though, seems his Facebook 'account' has been deleted from the list of accounts and it won't let me add it. So, obviously, can't sync it. The only account listed is google, and when I try to add his facebook account, it just goes back to the list of accounts.

Found this after doing another google search. Fixes the issue (thanks Chris)

For your contacts to Sync with Facebook, you'll need to launch the Facebook app on your phone and get into the App settings using the menu, then tell it to "Sync all" so that your contacts are updated/merged with Facebook contacts. You may have to also go within your Contacts application and "add" your Facebook account to get the sync to work again, but you need to start with the Facebook app, and make sure it is set to Sync with your Contacts.

My gf just got an update for froyo pushed to her phone yesterday morning and she likes it so far

Edit: today she called me when she got to work and I answered but heard nothing, she then called me from her work phone and told me her phone locked up, she is still having a lot fo the lag issues and freezing she was having before... This is a replacement phone that she was just sent... My advice to anyone thinking about getting this device... DON'T get something else as this phone has been nothing but headaches for her, she's on her second one and I wonder if they'll send her another phone this time maybe send her a different model.

Hmm. So her phone got Froyo yesterday? Nice.
I thought Sprint canceled the updates.

I'm still on Eclair, and I haven't experienced much sluggishness or any reboots or any of the other complaints against Eclair.
Odd.

I hope I get Froyo soon, though, for some more speed. :D
My phone already goes a little faster than my mom's iPhone 4. :3

My brother got the Froyo update today on his Intercept (Sprint). The phone is much faster at everything. It's seems to be working correctly, but we'll wait and see. I did notice that there is no Flash in the market, and it's not in the OS. I wonder if it's not going to be available?

Flash does not support the processor that is holding our phone back. Flash is a no go.

I got the Froyo update this past Saturday (January 8). Overall, the phone performs better, so it makes the experience more enjoyable, though the color scheme from Froyo looks a bit duller. My mon's Intercept got the update later that night.

One note of caution though. Backup your contacts by exporting them to the SD card before applying the Froyo update. I lost 14 contacts with the update, and deleted contacts are also deleted from your Google account. Luckily, I could restore mine from the backup I had on the SD card.

I just read that the Intercept for Virgin Mobile will the Froyo (2.2) update sometime this spring. :)

Just got the intercept for my hubby this week from Sprint (coming from a bb). I notice it does not have froyo and when trying to update it says your phone is up to date. Are they still planning on updating it?
