Froyo update November

It's a short article, so here's a copy and paste:

"The Android 2.2 upgrade situation on the Galaxy S has been a veritable rollercoaster of emotions for owners recently, owing in no small part to the seemingly final firmwares that have been briefly posted and pulled from the company's servers in parts of the world over the past couple weeks. Nordic countries have already sample the goods, but Sammy says that a "new" firmware update will be available in early November in the UK and should hit "all operator versions" of the phone (presumably including the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, and Fascinate) by the end of November. YouMobile is reporting that existing regional updates have been pulled due to general not-awesomeness, so hopefully they'll have a chance to get it right over the next couple weeks before it starts hitting again. Follow the break for Samsung's press release. "

I hope they presumed right!

Well thats sort of refreshing.....LOL. Will be nice when we finally get the upgrade.

I was hoping it was based on newer information since the article is dated "Oct 21st 2010 10:31AM"

Engadget got it wrong. Again.

This press release is from Samsung UK and Ireland, which is a separate Samsung subsidiary across the Atlantic Ocean. The announcement pertains only to Galaxy S phones, and telecom operators, in that market.

The Samsung Twitter sites for the United States, which is where Sprint is, have debunked the speculation, and reiterated what Samsung has said all along: Froyo will be deployed by U.S. carriers sometime this year:

RT @SamsungMobileUS Re: Froyo release in November statement came from SamsungUK. Froyo for US SGS will be avail this year http://ow.ly/2Xce8

This was extraordinarily irresponsible of Engadget. Not only was the geographic context apparent from the full press release, but if there was any ambiguity the reporter should have just called Samsung to clarify. Instead, he just wrote "presumably including the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, and Fascinate."

Engadget. Wrong. Again. Still no correction there as of this writing.

I frankly don't care too much for Froyo. I had it on the evo, and never used the newer features because its just basically Flash 10.1 and the JIT, which did improve the speed of the phone. However, the epic is plenty fast, and Flash sucks. It really really sucks. I can watch flas videos with a different browser, and flash games just don't work on mobile because they are designed for a mouse.

I am fine with 2.1. Nothing to miss about leaving my evo with 2.2.

I really want Adobe AIR compatibility and the ability to test my apps on it. For me, thats the biggest advantage for 2.2
