FroYo vs. Eclair (my summary)

OK, so I have had FroYo running on my Captivate since Sunday. Here are my general observations.

General
I had a very hard time getting the FroYo update on my phone. It just hung up for some time doing nothing. I had to flash back to stock JF6 and then do the update before it would load everything up. Even after that, it was buggy and didn't run too well. I ended up starting all over on Monday and it seems to be working better now. Of course, the exact same thing happened with the JH7 update, so I expected some issues.

GPS
My GPS results on the Eclair JH7 update improved the accuracy and maintained that accuracy with My Tracks and Navigation. This was the first time I was able to enable "Standalone" mode to make it as close to a real GPS as possible. My GPS results on the FroYo JI6 build have been closer to what they were like before the JH7 build, except I can see more satellites - I just have a harder time keeping them locked. My Tracks from yesterday had a large section blank and my navigation test from this morning had me jumping all over the place (make a U-turn on a road I wasn't even close to).

Lag
Lag has been a big problem for the Captivate and it didn't get much better with the FroYo update. I've noticed that webpages and apps load faster, but general navigation through the phone still has some decent lag. With OCLF, some of that was resolved once again, but it is still there, more than what I had with the Eclair JH7 build. My Quadrant scores reached 1800, but with Eclair it was almost 2300. Quadrant isn't everything and other benchmarks are higher.

Applications
With the FroYo build, I expected some applications to act funny, so it was no surprise to me when Desktop Visualizer went crazy and stopped saving my icons for applications. For one reason or another, it finally started working fine, but that may have been after I reflashed everything over. Other applications that have problems include ROM Manager. This was a previously known issue, but I didn't know it - I tried 4 times to backup my ROM without success - it did however copy all of my photos 4 times, which a reflash resolved.

These are the things that I have found with daily use. There are other things (such as native wireless tethering) that are much improved. And I miss that annoying Battery Charged notification.
