Ok, so here is what I am dealing with and for the life of me, I don't know what the F is going on. I go to bed with a phone that has about 90% charge on it. Wake up literally 8 hours later, it's dead. It has lost 90% juice in 8 hours, with no use. Ok, now I already know what your next questions are, and here are the answers...

Wifi:on
Wifi Sleep:never (the phone is literally 5 feet away from my wireless router)
Mobile Netwoks:off
CDMA:3g only ( I can get 4G with 4 bars, but if I'm sleeping then why? I only use 4g when I need it)
Auto Sync:Off
Background Data:Off
Manual updates on everything that requires syncing.
Display:29% (and why would that matter if it's "sleeping")
Bluetooth:Off
GPS:Off

Running Apps:
Widget Locker
PVWmdrmProxy
Sound Set
Calendar
Google Services
Maps (not sure why, GPS is turned off)
HTC DM
Sync Service (again, auto sync and background data off)
com.smithmicro.DM
Mobile IM (sure, why not, I don't use any IM service, but I am guessing this has something to do with texting/sms)
PVWmdrmService
Touch Input.

The only widgets I have set up are the HTC clock/weather (update off/manual), People (not linked to facebook or anything like that), Messages, and Agenda. All HTC sense widgets.

So now what in the heck is causing my phone to go dead at night with 90% left on a battery that is not in "real" use after 8 hours. And this is what really bends my noodle. Tonight, I can go to bed with the exact same set up, and wake up and it's only lost about 20%, what gives. I look at the battery usage graph, and it looks like a descent on Everest or something, just goes straight down. The wifi blue bar is solid blue, which leads me to think that wifi is on all night, but right under that "Awake" is sporatic, blue bars and black gaps, like the phone is waking up and going back to sleep all night long. What would cause it to "wake" up? A running app or process trying to sync? The Display is off based on the graph, since in that window of 8 hours, there is a hole there, no blue at all. And even if it is a rogue app, once the phone goes dead, and I have to hook up the charger to get it powered/charged up, it's basically reset all apps (I am only guessing here, but I would think that is the case), I wouldn't be able to tell what app drained it down.

Oh, and one last thing, I am using the standard battery right now (last night included). I have since this morning put my extended battery back in (hate the added bulk, but I'm getting tired of a useless phone). I've considered the Rezound battery, but i'm getting tired of buying batteries for my phone that I don't really use like it could be used for. I just talk, text, and email, no streaming media or music.

Please don't take this as a rant on how "bad" the Thunderbolt is, I really really do like this phone when it is charged up. I couldn't be happier from making the move from iOS to Android, and will continue to use Android devices, it fits my lifestyle, but I am just looking for help and answers. If anyone has any idea on what I can do, or what I am doing wrong to get the most out of my phone, then please help. I am reaching out here in hopes that others have experienced the same thing and know of a good way to fix it. I can already hear some people say "root" and honestly, if I can't find a "stock" fix or rouge app that I don't know about, then I will begin to reach out here for help on rooting my phone.

Thank you again for all the help I have already received here from others regarding various apps and things, so I hope somebody knows of some fix.

turn off your SYNC, your sleeping no need for it. Thats what kills my battery, I turn it back on when I wake up

maps kills mine.and why have it running if you sleeping.

Yeah, I can see that, but why is it even on/running. I didn't open up Maps or GPS the entire day, so by default it shouldn't be running anyways. I am thinking or at least would like to think that if I have never opened the app to begin with, then it shouldn't be running. If this is wrong in my assumption then someone please correct me. (we all know what happens when we assume something). Why would maps even be running if GPS is disabled, and I didn't open any apps that use it like Maps or Latitude, etc.

Install the Battery Monitor Widget. Let it keep a log of the battery current draw. That will tell you if it is a current draw issue, or a bad battery.

Are you running stock rom of a custom rom because I do not see this on my device and I have all the apps except Mobile IM, com.smithmicro.DM and PVWmdrmService..

com.smithmicro.DM
com.smithmicro.DM running around 70% - xda-developers

PVWmdrmService
[Q] What is the use of PVWmdrmProxy.apk and PVWmdrmService.apk - xda-developers

There has been reports of PVWmdrmService and com.smithmicro.DM causes a number of issues on users device and I would say this may be the place to look first, if you are rooted try making a nandroid backup and then freeze the PVWmdrmService app with Titanium and see if this helps, also I would try running System Panel and see what application seems to be carrying a heavy load on the system even in a idle state because I guarantee it is a stray app causing your issue.

I am fully stock, and using the latest GB OTA update (2.11.605.5). I have no clue as to what these do and why, but they are always running. From XDA I can gather that smithmicro has something to do with HTC updates, and if thats the case then I would welcome the idea of just turning this off, as well all know, we will wait forever for an HTC update to anything.

As for the other (PVMmdrmService) no clue, will do more research to figure that one out. I agree with the rogue app or process, but it is just so inconsistent that it is bothering the crap out of me. I've installed the battery monitoring widget as suggested above, will fully charge my extended battery, then replace it with the stock battery, fully charge it, and begin to monitor what is going on. I feel like I am taking two steps forward and like 3 back, but it will all work out. I have already begun browsing ebay for a new phone, but hate to do that since I really really like this one. I couldn't be happier with sense and android, but I just hate the inconsistency in the battery at night. I honestly live in fear of it going dead at any given moment. For what I use my phone for, I should't have to always be attached to a charger. I get it, it's a smart phone, it uses my battery, but for a smart phone, it sure is dumb at night! lol.

Does yours have dialer listed under usage? If I leave the "dialer' go all night my battery drains too. I NEVER use maps and it is always on not long after I force it close. I think I am going to try rooting with Upstreammiami and see what I have been missing.

Yeah dialer is listed in the battery display as to what is using certain percentages of the battery, as well as things like Android OS, Display, etc. From what I have read/researched etc, you can't turn the dialer off, and I tend to think that is just a false positive so to speak as to what is actually being used by the battery.

Honestly, I am probably just going to look into rooting my phone. I shouldn't live in fear of my battery every day, and I just want a phone that will talk, text, email, and occasionally look something up on Google. If I do that every day, then by the end of the day, my phone is dead in the water. So if rooting will do all of that and gain some battery life and control in the process, then fine with me. I would probably use other apps like Skype to be able to see and chat with my wife on her iPhone, but she isn't very tech savvy, nor are we ever really apart, so it's not that big a deal. I just want a cool phone with android software, sync with all my Google stuff, and not go dead while I sleep. I don't think that is too much to ask of today's smart phones, so again if rooting is my end all answer, well then, bring on BAMF forever then.

I started using the ReZound battery a couple weeks ago and had a similar occurrence. My rapid draw happend during the day, though the phone was idle the entire time. Based on some "strange behavior" from my wifi network at home and the battery usage monitor (stock GB monitor) indicating that the wifi antenna was the culprit, I think something got messed up with the phone's connection to the wifi network and the wifi antenna continued to draw power. I'm not sure what the deal was, but I haven't tried to reconnect the phone to my wifi since and have had predictable battery draw. I believe that wifi may get stuck in a "boot-loop" so-to-speak and the phone sends continual power to the antenna as a result. Mere conjecture, but it's my best guess at this time.

I am running the INFECTED ETERNITY Rom. I was at 100% when I unplugged my phone when I went to bed. I wanted to see how much of a drain I would have in the middle of the night. I went to bed about 11:30 and woke up at 6:30. It was at about 90% which isn't too bad for a stock battery.

I would suggest to the OP that they root their phone. I know I know some will say "They shouldn't have too in order to get a better battery life". There has been many threads about that argument so I won't rehash it here, but, when you can tweak your phone, you will be the envy to many and more of a satisfied customer.

I would wish for this every night actually. I will do some reading on rooting and how to, as I feel, that it will be the only way to get the most usage/battery ratio out of my phone. As for voiding any warranty with rooting, well, so be it. Again, I have already looked on ebay at some phones, and while that is the Last Last resort, i just want to make sure I understand the what and why this is happening to my phone. Again, if it was some bloatware running, then fine, I'll root and remove. But if its something I can control using my stock GB then, that is what I really wan to do. The thunderbolt thus far has been a solid device, I don't' have nor ever did have problems with reboots, radio issues, etc. Just this mysterious dead batter over night bug. I swear it must be gnomes or elves using my phone while I sleep. I just can't understand if it is not being used, nor any app running that shouldn't be, then what the heck I say. I just don't understand the inconsistency of it all. Perhaps I will create a journal and write down everything that is running/off, etc on my phone every night before I got to sleep and what is up and running the next morning (given the battery isn't dead) then compare my findings every day.

Have you tried going to bed with wifi turned off? I have my wifi sleep policy to never but if u leave my wifi on all night it causes significant battery drain.

This is something I have yet to try actually. I have it on WiFi all night and looking at the battery graph the next day, the loss in minimal, but about every third or fourth day, it goes down over night at a rapid rate and thus the dead battery in the morning. Tonight I will try the wifi off method and just see what happens.

Honestly, this really all wouldn't be a huge deal, but you never want to wake up to a dead phone when you went to sleep with like 90% remaining. It's not like I miss any calls during the night nor do I really want a call at 2 am, but I like the peace of mind of knowing that some family member could reach me if needed. I don't have a home phone, we just use our cell phones, as it seems like more and more do. Anyway, I'll keep digging and testing theories, but I appreciate all the feedback from folks thus far.

yeah, you should actually lose less being connected to wifi all night with the sleep policy set to never than leaving it on 4G or even 3G

My thoughts exactly.

I will experiment with a fully charged battery and one night leave wifi on, the next turn it off, set it the 3g only, the next set it to 4g, etc. And make sure that all the same apps are off and services are off, and only the essentials running, and just go from there. I will first try it out and see what a standard battery does, then move to the extended battery. I put my extended battery in today and have it fully charged up, I just hate that I don't have the phone in a case right now, plus not a super huge fan of the extra weight. I know it's not much, but it's noticeable to me at least. I've considered looking into a case that fits the extended battery, but I really just like the weight and feel of the standard phone. Perhaps purchasing a Rezound battery to try before I decide to root might be an option. I know that will fit the standard back, and give me a little more battery life. If nothing else, I will have another battery to add to my collection.

I would also turn off the Wifi and do you really need your phone turned on all night? I don't have mine on when I go to bed. I don't want to be disturbed for one thing. I charge it at night when I am sleeping and it is good to go for the following day. It is my only phone but still, I don't want to be disturbed when I am sleeping. By anything LOL

..and do you really need your phone turned on all night? LOL

Actually, yeah I do. Not having a home phone limits my calls on my cell, and while I really don't want to be disturbed, if there ever were an emergency, then I would need some way of being reached. I can't say that I want a call at 3 am to let me know that our email server is down, but I also don't want to miss the call of my sister in law going into labor, or some sort of family emergency. It's just a frustrating issue since why the dramatic drop in batter if no use. Again, it is probably a rogue app that I somehow can't find, but either way, it's inconsistent and annoying.

*quick edit*

And I don't mind plugging the darn thing in at night, which would certainly end all of this, but should I have to with 90% left on the battery and I am not using it at all? That's what the issue it. I pretty much always plug it in before I go to sleep, usually if there is anything less than 70% I charge it back up for the next day, but anytime I have more than 70% remaining, I should be able to get through 8 hours of sleep with my current power saving settings.

Jude,

Have you thought of using a volume control app. I use "cVolume" and it has a night setting which shut everything off other than emergency calls and the alarms.....I use it every night.
