"Fully Charged" Screen now appearing on Tab S3 after Pie Upgrade

Hoping someone can help here...

My Galaxy Tab S3 was just updated to Android Pie -- very surprised at that actually. One of the changes is a charging indicator while the screen is off, at the bottom of the display.

I keep my tab by my bedside and that new "100% Fully Charged" notification never goes away and it's just a little too bright for me (compared to the totally off state of Oreo). Does anyone know if this can be disabled?

On my S9, if I turn off Always on Display it also goes away.

Thanks, but I checked and I don't think there is an AOD setting on the tablets... at least not one I could find.

Same problem here. I looked through all the settings plus the developer options, but I do not see a way to turn it off. I can also confirm that the notice stays on even if I close the magnet sensitive cover. The full display still turns off but the battery/charge notification stays on.
Only way to get rid of the message is to remove the charging cable.

Or, to sleep, pull the "shade" down and lower the brightness - then turn it up when you wake up. (Or use the Google Assistant to turn it down to 10% [or less].)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to see if that makes a difference as auto-brightness is already enabled and we're talking about the dead of night here. I'll try it and post back.

Can confirm that brightness level does affect the always on display (if that's what we are calling this silly change). This is still not a good solution as it would mean having to adjust the brightness all the time. And we could argue that the display could still potentially have a screen burn problem even at lowest brightness setting.

What is even a bigger problem is the AOD is still active even if I completely cover the screen. I don't think this tablet has a proximity sensor, like most phones do. So even turning the tablet over, or closing the cover does nothing to prevent the display from staying on.

I add that I'm seeing some spontaneous reboots as well. I may factory reset and see if that fixes it and maybe magics in some setting that we should be seeing (but really don't expect to).

Ok, I just stumbled on a crazy workaround.
Set a screensaver, use google photos, but don't configure it -- by default it will not select an account. When it runs, it's not connected to any media, so it just shows a black screen. Be careful not to select the account. I had a single-option radio button suggesting that once it's selected, it can't be unselected.

So far so good...

Thanks for this! Yes, this does work, but the only issue is, you need to let the screen timeout by itself, you can't press the power button to turn off the screen.

One change I would make is to use the "Photo Frame" option instead of Google Photos. Just download a completely black photo ( I googled for a black PNG file). Create a new folder under Internal storage/Pictures, place the all black photo there, and choose that folder only to display with Photo Frame option.

A bonus with this feature is, you can just tap the screen to wake it up, instead of having to press the power or home buttons.

Yep, but given the alternative, it's probably the best option at the moment, I usually use a one-minute timeout anyway, so this is no big deal, especially since the device is already plugged in.

Just download a completely black photo

Set the camera for lowest ISO and fastest shutter speed and take a picture in total darkness. That should be totally black. (If it's not, you can edit it and change it to black.)
