Fuzzy picture with Mobile Banking app on HTC One

Installed the Mobile Banking app from my bank on my HTC One, and after much frustration got to the part where the app wants me to take a picture of the check. No matter what I tried, moving closer and farther away, changing light sources, etc., I could not get a sharp image of the check, so I did not continue the process to deposit the check. I could easily get a sharp image of the check using the camera by itself, but not when the app had control of the camera.
I installed the Mobile Banking app on my wife's iPhone 5, and when I got to the step to take a picture of the check, I got a nice sharp image within the brackets superimposed on the screen by the app. I hit the deposit button, and got an error message that the check could not be read; that the image was not within the brackets. So I took the photo over again, moving further away, but the image was blurry. I certainly could not read the account number on the check. I hit deposit anyway, and the check was accepted. One business day later, the check showed up on my account as a mobile deposit.
I have not had the opportunity yet to go back and try submitting a fuzzy check with my HTC One to see if that works.
Anyone have experience on their HTC One with the mobile deposit of fuzzy photos of checks?
The app I'm using has been rated poorly, out of 10 reviewers, 5 gave it a 1. The two who rated it highly probably work for the bank.

Which banking app are you using? When you try to take the picture, do you see the camera trying to autofocus at all? I have the Bank of America app on my Razr Maxx, and I have found that it sometimes has difficulty focusing on the check. I usually have to try a few times before I get a clear photo. When you're taking the shot, make sure you have good lighting.

I have PNC bank and use virtual wallet app. I have the same problem. But then I use my son's ipod touch 4th and works fine. It's almost like the size of the screen doesn't fit the check right. In the corners. No matter how close I move it. Weird.

I'm with Insight Financial CU and my app does the same thing but it works. I can keep the check within the lines and it looks out of focus, but as soon as I take the pic, it becomes focused. The only problem is, is that the picture looks as if I'm standing 50 feet away from it....and tilted. Usually takes me 3 tries to get it "good" enough to deposit and it's a PITA. At least my one works....my S4 won't take a focused picture at all unless I down the megapixel to 4MP or less....and even then, it still doesn't get it right.
My guess is that it's not the phone. It's shoddy codemanship of the app designer.

also BOA and have the same problem as B. Diddy... don't think this is an HTC ONE problem though. it's just technology that's not ready for prime time-. although after several tries my deposit always goes through.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Good to know I'm not alone with this Mobile Banking mess.
The next time I get a check (for a small amount), I'll try my HTC One and deposit it, fuzzy or not, and report back the results.

Twc understand it takes multiple tries

I have had no luck with the HTC One and the BA mobile banking application. No matter how good the picture, how much light, dark or light the app will not accept the checks. I had this application on my former phone, The Samsung Galaxy 4, and it worked fine. I am so frustrated I have gone back to using the ATM

I have BofA and Chase, have used both for years with no problem with MyTouch4g. Now I have an HTC One (stock ROM) and it never works. I've tried everything; black background, white, forced flash, no flash, sunlight, close up, far away, vertical, horizontal, all the choices and suggestions I've seen in other threads... no bueno. And this is with both apps, so I have a hard time blaming them. So, when I need to make a deposit, I pull the 'ol MT4g out of the drawer, fire it up on WiFi, and it goes through first time, every time. I'd really like to able to use the ONE, so hope a resolve comes around some day.

My HTC One does the same thing. Talked with PNC Tech Support and they had me change a bunch of settings with no success. I've tried a dozen different backgrounds and different lighting with no success. If I use my wife's HTC EVO it will go through first time every time. It has got to be software compatibility issues. Has anyone solved this issue yet?

I have US Bank App and I have no problems with the check deposit.

my camera worked perfectly with my Chase app until i sent the phone in to have the camera repaired (lowlight/purple tint issue) Now the camera won't focus when I tap the screen and when I press the shutter button there is no sound but the viewfinder screen switches to the finished photo and it is just a black screen. oddly after 15 tries the camera did work one time. It seems it would either work or not so I don't know if that's a clue to the issue.

Same problem here. Tried many times without luck. Quit and wating for some fix.

I received my HTC one back from the second warranty repair of the camera. I believe they did not "replace" the camera module during the first time I sent it in as they claimed because the camera came back with more problems that it was sent in for. I sent it back a second time and the camera works great, all issues were resolved and my Chase bank app works again. Obviously not a software issue. After trouble shooting with the Chase Mobile developers, their consensus was it was a hardware issue on the phone's camera. Since it was resolved when the camera module was replaced I'd have to say they were right.

I'm unable to deposit checks using the Discover Mobile Banking app on my Samsung Galaxy S 4G Relay because of poor image quality. Normally the app doesn't even acknowledge an image, just freezes the screen for a very long moment (with a crystal clear image of the check visible) then goes back to the live image without saving the captured image.

Now, if I take a photo in complete darkness, the flash gets triggered & the app actually recognizes that a photo has been taken and even allows me to submit the deposit, but then rejects it because of the image quality, which is terrible. I have yet to get it to work.

What I do instead is open my other mobile banking app (from a local credit union), deposit the check there (using the same phone, same camera) and then transfer funds from that bank to my Discover account. Works every time. Wish my credit union would just give me a decent interest rate so I could just leave the cash there!

I've reinstalled the Discover app a few times, uninstalled any extra photo software & updated the original camera software but still can't use the Discover app for deposits. I don't think I can blame the camera hardware since one banking app works perfectly.

I have NEVER been able to get the Chase mobile app to work for a check deposit. I can't tell you how many ways I have taken the check pictures. It always says the picture isn't clear enuff.
