G3 is on the left, and - assuming it shows in the photos - it can be seen that the G4 has cleaner whites and richer colours. (However it has to be said that I'm comparing a 10-month-old G3 to a new G4, which may not be a fair comparison.) These differences are very obvious in the hand. Both set to maximum brightness.

G3 whites look very yellow, but the G4's look kind of blue. What about an all-white background?

I always thought the g3 was pretty dim. Does the g4 get a lot brighter?

But the G4 has a brighter, cleaner look.

The G4 seems a little brighter but it may be because it's a cleaner white balance. Here are the icons of the Google folder as another comparison, 50% brightness this time.

For want of a white test screen I used the forums page, 100% brightness, pic below. :)

I've noticed that the G4 is dimmer at low brightness settings than the G3 - at 5% for example - which will be useful at night.

Also, some users of the G3 were slightly troubled by the sharpening artefacts visible in some conditions, such as around fine black text against a white ground. These are absent from the G4's display.

It's a wonderful display....almost like Samsung's Amoleds. I'm using No Wallpaper on both G3 and G4 - it's black - and on the G4, it does seem a deeper black.

Edit: The black seen from an angle on the G3 takes on a purplish cast. On the G4, it remains black.

Ouch lol. Similar to how my S4 looked next to my Note 4 :D

Also full brightness on both

I wonder whether it's an ageing effect or something....as I mentioned, comparisons between a much-used and a new device may not be fair. Although the newer displays look better in our comparisons, I don't think people ought necessarily to be deterred from buying the older devices, which are still of very high quality.

Probably not. I've compared even to in-store models and the G3 still looks very yellow. M9 and Nexus 6 are similarly off-white

To be fair to the underdog the g3 had 2 display manufactures. (Lg and jdi) i had a 16gb d855 g3 and my friend had the 32gb 2gb of ram d855 and next to one another they was totally different. The 32gb had miles better whites amd mine the 2gb varient had yellowish whites so that may be the case with the g3 in them pictures as i think that g3 is a jdi screen because the screen with the better whites was the lg made pannel.. lg pannel also brighter than the jdi one

Yes, I'd forgotten that.

Nice comparison though i love the look of the g4 and all the reviews are good i had the g3 but had some sort of yellow kind of burn in on the middle so got it sorted through warantee but sold up and got the m8. Im going to buy the g3 again though because on england i can buy a sealed new 32gb variant for £250 wich is a barging, just untill i upgrade then the g4 will be in my pocket :-)
