G3 getting hot and battery drain only when on mobile network

Hello, I would appreciate any help with the problem with my g3. Description is lengthy but wanted to be thorough.

My G3 (d850) was not booting. After trying (unsuccessfully) to fix through safe mode, I did a backup and restored the phone. Phone is NOT rooted and running 6.0 Marshmallow.

Now the phone is getting a lot hotter than before the restore. Phone is only hot when the sim card is installed and connected to the mobile network (AT&T). Along with it getting hot, the battery life is abyssmal compared to before. Pre-restore, I would get 1.5 days of moderate use per full charge with the mobile network. Now if I'm using the phone or not, the full battery lasts less than 4 hours. Phone will not send or receive text messages right away if at all. Phone calls will disconnect while ringing ("mobile network is not available" or similar) and cannot connect calls sometimes.

First I removed the case. Still gets hot and battery drain. Then I uninstalled apps like Android wear, Greenify, and others that may be running in the background and causing issues. Without sim card, on WiFi, phone operates fine and battery temp according to battery guru is at 86-92 degrees Fahrenheit) I typed this post on the g3.

Would rooting and/or custom Rom help?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! What kind of cell signal strength it the phone reporting? Use it from 100% down to around 20-30%, then show us screenshots of the Settings>Battery menu after tapping the battery graph (so we can see the cell signal strength bar). If the phone is reporting poor signal, that could cause things to get hot as the phone works to compensate.

Do you have a cell signal strength graph? You never have more than 3 bars, and it seems like it's more like 1-2 bars. Network is also a relatively high battery consumer.

Update: I tried a new SIM card but was still having issues with calls not going through and texts not being sent and received.

So I did a restore and wiped everything off the phone. Phone works better than before. My LED on the top corner never worked since I bought it. It's working now. Also phone's not overheating and everything works great.

I install a new app once every 2-3 days and see what it's doing. Right now with moderate usage, I'm getting almost 26 hours of usage.
