G4 charging overheat!

My G4 keeps overheating when it's charging. Here's the info:
Overheats during charge even if no apps are used and the phone's screen is off.
Gets hot mainly in the back buttons area.
Doesn't overheat anymore when the battery level is more than 90%.

I'm using a Tronsmart 2.0 quick charge charger with the LG data cable that came with the phone. Previously I was using the tronsmart cable but the results were the same. Please advise.

Quick Charging will heat up the phone/battery more than a standard charger. The more current you use, the higher the temps, no different than when playing a demanding game that sucks the battery down quick. I wouldn't worry unless it's actually getting over 120°F/48°C.

The reason it stops heating up around 90% is because the charge current slows as the battery gets full. Less current is going to equal less heat.

The only thing to know about the G4 with Quick Charging is it only does so with the screen off. I've seen some people with the Marshmallow update saying it will now give an indicator when quick charging, but no word on if that means it'll continue with the screen on. I don't have marshmallow, so can't speak from personal experience.

It only quick charges with the screen off. I thought I read somewhere that this was standard for quick charging not just limited to the G4.

The reason is obvious having the screen on and quick charging each generate a lot of heat, having the two combined would just be too much.

My M8 not only quick charged with the screen on, but also did so at a higher rate than my G4 with screen off without getting too hot under normal use. Gaming would be another story, but that happens with any phone. It also seems the G4 likes to throttle the charge rate when it even thinks about getting lukewarm, which I believe is LG being overly aggressive with temperature control. I often fight to keep screen brightness high enough to use when it keeps automatically cutting back with a temperature warning without even being over 100°F.

The G4 also isn't officially QC2.0 compliant from what I've been reading. Yes, they wanted it to be, but LG reportedly didn't advertise it because they hadn't finished testing on that by production time. Which seems like a poor move on their part to me. They should have finalized testing before releasing it.
