G5 Plus vs Xperia X

Looking to jump from Windows 10 Mobile (RIP Lumia 640) back to Android and I'm trying to decide between the G5 Plus for $230 or the Xperia X for $270. They both would seem to work fine for what I'd need, but I'm curious about camera quality on both. All the reviews I've found said both had sub-par cameras for their class (but for the Xperia X, that was back when it was $500+). I guess, in general, is the G5 Plus good enough, and/or is the Xperia X that much better for the extra $40? Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions.

Welcome. :)

There lies the rub....'good enough'. In other words, good enough for what, and by whose standards? I'm not trying to give an annoying answer, but how important to you is camera performance? Do you want the best?

Thanks for the response....those questions are totally valid and not annoying at all :-)

"Good enough" for the price. I can't afford a flagship, so I was looking at current mid-range and previous flagships. Now that I have a 7 month old, the phone (read: camera) that is always in my pocket has gotten a lot more usage than my nice (but not always on me) Lumix FZ200. Camera performance is one of the top priorities for this phone purchase. Most phones do fine in good light, so I'm more concerned about speed and low-light. Speed = not just shutter speed, but pocket-to-photo speed too. It also still needs to be a decent enough Android device to last for at least two years, good battery life, etc., but the camera is more important to me than (mostly) stock Android, or some of the extra Moto stuff on the G5 Plus (like Active Display or whatever it's called....Lumia Glance lol). I'd even be okay with being behind on software updates if the camera was significantly better. So, I guess, if the Xperia X has a camera that's only a smidge better, than I'd lean towards the G5 Plus (since it's probably a better overall device), but if it's on a whole different level, then it'd be worth the extra money to me. Before my Lumia 640 I had the 920.....I know that both the G5 Plus and Xperia X would be a solid camera upgrade anyways, but if I'm spending money, I want to get the most bang for my buck.

Or maybe I should ask a slightly different question.....given the $230-270 price range, what 5"-class Android phone has 1) the best camera, and 2) the best future path forward as a generic device, in that order?
