G6 or V20

Hi all,

New to the forums and somewhat new to Android devices. Was using BlackBerry for years as they were paid for by work.

I've been limping by with a Sony Xperia XA Ultra, purely bought for the 6inch screen at the time with no research done. The battery on this device is terrible, the stamina mode doesn't even get me close to a work day with little use.

I've never had an LG but believe I've narrowed my search to the G6 and the V20. It's such a tough decision at this point as both look like great phones. The removable battery in the 20 makes it tempting but in the same breath the water proofing of the G6 would be so nice.

I've heard LG will be extending the warranty on the G6 to two years? Is that correct and for all countries?

I've read all the comaprison threads and pros and cons and still can't decide. Any glaring issues on either side I should be aware of? I see LG has had some bootloop issues in the last but that doesn't seem to be a common issue with these two models.

Both are great devices. Ultimately boils down to whether you want a removable battery or the waterproofing. Flip a coin! 😉

I'd love to help, but I have the V20, and my wife has the G6. Both great phones. I prefer the V20 because of the removable battery, and 2nd screen. She prefers the G6 because of waterproofing and size.

Welcome to the forums, and good options for upgrading, for sure! Love BlackBerry too! You'll encounter a bit of an adjustment from BlackBerry to Android, but don't worry, it'll be good! When I switched, it took me maybe two weeks to fully immerse myself; but after a couple of days, you definitely figure out the fundamentals!

Now. Decisions, decisions. If it were me in this boat, I'd choose the G6; for the following (biased) reasons:

1) It's 5.7" but easy to hold and use - and I have small hands and tested it out in-store; so using it would be much easier than its V-series counterpart. Also, the screen-to-bezel ratio is exciting and smooth.

2) Phablets are too complicated for me - too big to put in my purse, my hand, etc. I like movie watching on my laptop or TV, and only watch on my phone before bed or on special occasions. So a phone of this size would not serve me well in that regard.

3) I've owned the G3 and so I'd be interested in using its "double iteration" to see how it compares.

4) The G6 is indeed offering a two year warranty extension. I know it's happening in the States for sure - not sure about other countries. I'm hoping it comes to Canada, as that's huge.

5) The G6 is at a very reasonable price. Other flagships will cost well over a thousand dollars; and seeing one priced like the G6 is great!

So, those are my reasons! But if you've watched review videos and did your research and still can't decide, here's what I recommend asking yourself:

- which one could you see yourself using for longer?

- let's say you upgrade your phone every year or six months. You'd be looking at this phone every day, all the time, for that specific time frame. Can you do that?

- go to the stores and test out how each phone feels in the hand. Which one feels better to you? Does one kind of "not fit"?

- lastly, make a pro-con list; but count the number of pros for each phone, and even subtract one pro for each con if you want. A list of this sort will better show you what you're looking for in a phone on paper and will give you a visual representation of your choices and reasonings for said choices.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

Bootloop issue fixed starting with the G5. No mass reports of problems with any LG device as of yet otherwise we would all know. Now for which device you want all comes down to size pretty much, they are basically the same phones but the V20 is slightly bigger with wider display and the G6 is more narrow though the screen sizes corner to corner are both 5.7'. YouTube videos will have a black border on the G6 and overall will appear smaller because if the narrower screen. I vote for the V20 because I believe it has a longer life due to the ability of switching out the batteries when it goes bad later down the road, and also because of the 2nd screen and Quad DAC. Music sounds noticably better, it was the first thing I noticed. The 2nd screen is very useful once you start using the device over time, the G6 actually uses the entire display to show the always on display whereas the V20 only shows at the top 2nd display. Now do you want a pretty, water-resistant phone or do you want a powerhouse, best smartphone music sound and is more durable and made of metal instead of glass?

G6
- beautiful glass design (however slightly more fragile)
- wireless charging
- 32GB storage
- 13MP regular + 13MP wide camera
- new taller aspect ratio, easy to use one-handed (however screen appears more smaller than V20, YouTube videos has black border)
- no IR blaster
- Always On Display lights up entire LCD screen
- probably costs a bit more than the V20

V20
- durable metal back build
- removable back battery
- 16MP regular + 8MP wide camera
- 64GB storage
- Quad DAC for better audio playback
- HiFi video/microphone recording
- 2nd screen with always on display
- IR blaster built in
- bigger/wider screen with normal aspec ratio (no black border visible on YouTube videos)
- Probably cheaper in price

I agree, the removable battery on the V20 would indeed give it a longer shelf life. Also, a very well written post! :)

Welcome to the forums! I'd personally go with the V20 myself, although there's a lot of features of the G6 that I like slightly more. Agree with most of the points above.

If you care about camera, tje camera is slightly better in the G6... Battery life is also better ok the G6 BUT it isn't removable as you know.. the feel in hand is way better on the G6 but it's glass to the V20"s metal and plastic. There is a 2 yr warranty on the G6.. but like I said earlier, it all boils down to what you like, and what you think is more valuable for you.

I have the V20 and my gf has the G6. I like mine she likes hers. I have a spare battery. But we used hers at the water park last weekend. Her phone is noticeably quicker. Plus her wide angle camera is better. But I still like the second screen and removable battery and it also seems that the V20 records loud music at concerts better than the G6. We go to alot of music festivals.

I have the same exact dilemma.
My G4 is awesome but I think it's time.......

I have been playing around with both G6 and V20 - both great in their own ways.
One thing I would like some input on is screen. The 18:9 ratio is really weird. I think the biggest thing for me is the phone seems so skinny coming from the G4, also compared to the V20.

Are you all getting used to the screen ratio yet???

FYI - I don't watch Netflix so I don't care about that

I thought it was weird too, until I held it.

I'm used to it. playing games are great.. and the implementation in the camera app is also awesome. That said, the way the V20 implements the extra screen in the camera app is awesome too. I'm a little bit uniquiely qualified as I came from a V20 and went to the G6. I loved the V20, but to be honest, I like the form factor of the G6 more. Like I said earlier, both are virtually the same. It honestly all boils down to personal preference.. and the DAC in the V20 is bananas.

Thanks - I'm starting to lean towards the G6

Edit: Not leaning anymore - Proud owner of LG G6!!!!

16/9 vs 18/9 I didn't think there would be a big difference. Then I held the G6. Easier to hold and use with one hand. All around more comfortable to use in my opinion
