Ever since a recent forced update to One UI 2.5, Android 10, my phone dies overnight several times per week. Latest example phone was charged 100% before going to bed, this morning it was completely off. Had to press and hold power and volume down for 15 seconds to get it to boot up. Battery showed 54%.

Prior to the update, phone was rock solid, no issues, battery lasted three days as I am not a heavy user.

Model: SM-A705W. 2-3 years old.

I have cleared cache, performed a factory reset, and turned off Auto Restart with no improvement. Battery usage doesn't show any apps with unusual amounts. I have also run it in Safe Mode for a few days and it still crashes.

Last night the phone had 60% charge before bed. This morning is was completely powered off and has 20% charge. Something is using a lot of power overnight to cause this crash. In Device care, under Battery, I don't see any Apps using more than 1%. Could it be the Android system causing the problem? Any way to force the next UI 3.0 update which is not on my A70 yet but I see it's on the list of eligible phones.

Welcome to Android Central! When you look at the battery usage, are you showing all system services? Is there a lot of Cell Standby usage? How's your cell signal?

Hi B. Diddy,

To view battery usage on Android 10, I go into Settings > Device Care > Battery > Battery usage. There's a graph of "Last 7 days" and below it is today's graph. Below that, it a list of 8 apps including Google Play Store and One UI Home. How do I display system services? I don't see a More or three dots to expand the list. I don't see Cell Standby usage.

My wireless connection is strong, 433 Mbps network speed. I don't use cellular service much and it's not on most of the time.

I don't have a Samsung device yet to test, so let me see if @mustang7757 can help with the menu options.

Even if your wi-fi is strong, a poor cell signal can still contribute to battery drain. You might want to try turning on Airplane Mode, and then turning wi-fi back on, and see if that does anything.

Thanks @B. Diddy and @mustang7757.

The battery usage graph is by day and lists the last 7 days. For each day, I can click on any 2 hour period and the list of apps below shows what was being used during the two hour period. Given that my phone crashes between midnight and 6am, I am looking at the running apps during that overnight period. So far I have seen apps using up to about 1% of battery which is a lot for a 2 hour period overnight when I am not using the phone.

In particular Google Play Services doesn't show much time as being active but it does show a lot of background time.

After reviewing battery usage, I don't see any apps that are drawing the battery down and forcing it to power off. I can have 100% battery before going to bed and the next morning the phone is still powered on and I have say 90% battery. The next night, I can start with 100% before bed and the next morning the phone is off, won't start up by just pressing the power button for a second, I have to press and hold both power and volume down for 15 seconds to get it to boot up. This makes me think the phone has crashed and shutdown for now reason. After booting it up, I may only have 60% battery.

So there is a battery drain going on some nights but not all. Even with battery drain, it never goes below 30%. A full battery lasts me 2-3 days as I am not a heavy user.

Is there a utility that I can download to look for operating system crash data?

Download a app called Nice Catch in galaxy play store so next time it turns off or crash maybe detect it

Saw this notice about Nice Catch. Is there a safer alternative?

Important update! Do not download this: It has come to our attention that the debug key used to sign the Nice Catch app is publicly available, making the app dangerous to download and install.

It's been four or five days where the phone has not crashed overnight. I did a few things and am not sure what one thing solved this issue.

1. Several days ago, I noticed that Google Play Services was using several percentage points of battery overnight. I realize it could be busy updating apps but decided to clear cache and data on Google Play Store and Services apps.

2. Turned off Auto restart under the Advanced section of Battery in Device care.

3. Uninstalled RSA SecurID Software Token as I no longer need it.

4. In the Outlook app, I disabled Sync contacts as I read that it can cause battery drain.

Not very scientific but the phone is working better.
